I know a manager that has misinterpreted that, and feels left out because he also wants to do two exciting high cocaine. He will obviously encourage them to do it …
So the away goal rule is gone now. Good for us I say.
Teams like Atlético or the Italians have to go for a win in the first leg already and can not afford to sit back.
We‘ll probably will see already vs Inter. They have to try to win and score a few at home already while in the past they probably would have settled for a 0-0 at home and then try to score one or two away.
DS will start his usual crap like the weekend and utd will win, he’s a proper knob they are a better team than real and 12 points behind them in the league.
I’m glad to see the back of it too. That year we were knocked out by Atletico was a travesty. (I know it wasn’t directly because of the rule , but once they had gone ahead at their place they knew they were as good as through with a goal at Anfield.)
I’m definitely not afraid of them, and think over two legs we have the edge. All I’m saying is all things being equal, I’d rather face the strongest opposition as late as possible. Still, it’s the knockout stages of the CL, so what will be will be. Bring it on, whoever it is.
In some ways I think I would rather have a team like that in the final, after we’ve knocked out teams that could beat us in a one-off game, i.e. City, PSG, Bayern, maybe RM. I think we’re well capable of defeating the big teams over two legs. Kind of like the 2019 CL run against Bayern, Porto and Barca which ended with a final against one of Europe’s lesser teams.
Klopp believes he has the best goalkeeper in the world (Alisson), the best defender in the world (Van Dijk), the best No 6 in the world (Fabinho) and the best striker in the world (Salah). Everyone else is performing at an elite level.
The Champions League draw could have been done over and over and over again and Liverpool would not have blinked at the opposition in front of them. That includes City, who are also in ominous form. [Paul Joyce, The Times]
