UEFA Champions League (Part 1)

They let Varane go because he is injury prone and replaced Ramos with Alaba. And Militao is top quality

Poch to Everton then. Saving them from relegation.

Relegation from the Championship to League One? Maybe he could have a shot at that

Athletico, Juventus, Ajax and Chelsea to go through.

We will draw up Ajax.

Bayern to face Athletico.

Cheaty draws up Real Madrid and Chelsea will draw up Juventus. And winner of that tie to face each other in the next round.

It was a subtle piece of motivation and it worked

I’m still not all that convinced by Madrid.

I think last night was more about the weak mentality of PSG than, about Madrid being that much better a team

Because form doesn’t matter nowadays, only an inflated salary does.

I’d be keen to avoid Bayern and City in the next round but would take the rest.

Some outstanding individual stuff last night, especially from Benzema and Modric.

I was interested how Real would cope without Casemiro (and without a natural replacement for him) and with a not fully fit Kroos.

I was interested if PSG would keep the same tactical tweak/surprise from the first game and if the approach/execution (in terms of pressing and defending from the front) would be with Neymar instead of Di Maria.

PSG decided to go again with that. Danilo dropping from RCM to RCB to make a back 3 in phases of the game, Messi dropped from the right half space almost to RCM to make a midfield 3, Mbappe played very high on the left, Neymar played basically the false #9 role (which Tuchel tried with him when PSG went to the final in 2020, they flipped the positions of Mbappe and Neymar a lot in those knockout stages).

Real showed high pressing intent from the start, perhaps trying to make PSG vulnerable and think about what they do, get early momentum. But it was risky, especially with Mbappe’s runs.

I thought the best PSG played was still the first game. They were better in the first half last night, but not that better (like in the first leg) I don’t think. Certain caution was still needed.

Real started the second half very strongly.

That’s when I think PSG failed with their decisions.

How the hell did they end that game with the same front 3? How the hell did they bring on Di Maria only on minute 81, after he was such an important part of that quality performance in the first leg?

Neymar is only returning from injury. In some aspects in the first half it was good, but I think it was too much for the rest of the team to cover for that front line. Someone had to come off and soon. You don’t take Mbappe off, Messi can be involved in certain aspects, so the logical choice was Neymar. Get him off and help the team.

Of course, that’s not to say PSG didn’t make defensive mistakes as a unit and individually. They also lack league games of this calibre, even if they do make life more difficult for them domestically than one would expect.

Plus, Real are Real sometimes at the end of the day. One lesson they often prove is that you really never write them off in the CL as long as they have a chance. Huge mentality.

Not to bothered with Bayern but yeah I can’t be arsed with City at all, if we face Chelsea I’d rather have it over two legs but I’d prefer a two legged European tie.

I’d actually want either City or Bayern - get them out of the way and make a statement!

Couldn’t care who we get. We’re good enough to beat anybody if we approach it with the right mentality

She really isn’t anything special- it’s all make up and hair extensions.

Still, each to their own. :sunglasses:

Apparently Al-Khelafi was screaming death threats at Madrid staff. Completely deranged… you’d think he’d be used to humiliating defeats by now.
