UEFA Champions League (Part 2)

No one will ever best this one:

Edit: The Guardian covered this a few years ago. There are a couple of others mentioned.

Our shortest ever away game was when we played TNS in Wrexham in the 2005/06 Champions League which is 41km away. Actually still on Merseyrail.

3-0 against the Czech team Viktoria Plzeň. Rangers FC should not, as we say in Germany, ‘let anyone take the butter off their bread’.

Incidentally, today also saw the first legs of the third qualifying round of the Europa League and Conference League. Shelbourne FC caused an upset when they beat HNK Rijeka 2-1 away. There was also a surprise in the Conference League, as Icelandic club Víkingur beat Brøndby IF 3-0.

Wrexham is not on the Merseyrail system. It terminates at Chester..

I didn’t realise that. I still remember it from pre-privatisation where the timetables were published in English and Welsh.

Amazing game now on the telly. Bodø/Glimt vs Sturm Graz. Fantastic offensive footie so far. 2-0 for now.

3-0 to the break. What a dominant half in such an important game !

I am witnessing something very special. Something historic. This game is, very special. I don’t know what to say. It’s so close to 6-0 now (still 5 as of now though) :exploding_head:

In a counting Play Off to the Champions League !!! :scream:

It’s really the spectacular fairy tale of old. Like a national romantic fairy tale from 1880.

I thought they were in it last year?

Anyhow the fixture draw is next Thursday at 5pm, not much point watching it mind. Though I’ve realised why they’ve done this now and not bigger group splits.

So they can have a pointless draw lasting 3 hours instead of what 2 groups of 10 or 9 would last.

No, that was the Europa League. They have had to go through qualifying games due to our lower coeficency. Now its far better than it was previously though.Regarding money, this is a massive step up and it is purely self made with no rich uncles.

I’m sure they will enjoy the 3500 miles flight back home.

Well, they started with nothing. Absolutely nothing (Norwegian league doesn’t have much money in the second divison to put it mildly and not a single rich uncle. Bodø is also a tiny city, actually more a large town) . Then Kjetil Knutsen arrived and the rest is (sensational) history. An epic so rare in the football world that I repeat myself a few times regarding just that. I can remember nothing like it in recent history. Maybe some football professor can tell me a story from the 70s, but what Glimt has done is so remarkable that every football expert worth his salt is talking about them.

I am talking about the journey from 2019 of course. From winning the league to becoming European staple, going deep in conference league and last year Europa league. Now Champions League. Absolutely insane accomplishment that dwarfs all achievements of all other football clubs in the world, no less.

Because everything in the world is always relative to where one starts.

I know we’ve lost a fair few shootouts since but I remember Rodgers being poor at them.

Let’s hope we are not next.

Doubt we would lose but yeah if we do draw them I hope it’s at home.

Only a few places to be confirmed but this is how it’s shaping up. Pafos made it tonight, Qarabag and Brugge with handy advantages to take back home you’d expect both to be there, then it’s 1 of Copenhagen/Basel and a pretty tasty looking tie in Benfica/Fenerbache.

Be nice to have an easier draw this time round, Give us PSG, Inter, Frankfurt, Villarreal, Sporting, Bodo, Pafos and Copenhagen/Basel.
