UEFA Champions League (Part 2)

So stop waving it around in all our faces

You mean, the final? Barcelona look very inconsistent and have a few injuries. As a biased Liverpool fan, I can’t help but feel hard done by seeing the draw we got last year and the draw Arsenal got this year - both after topping the group.

By far the harder side of the draw. But potentially more big nights for us to enjoy. And no team will want to come to Anfield!

I’m actually disappointed that we can’t meet Arsenal over 2 legs. I think they’re scared shitless of us. Haven’t scored a goal in 2 games this season. Most worried about City after losing home and away to them already, but hopefully we can summon the spirit of 2018!

If Arsenal would do face Bayern, i would do favouritely ,Gunners". I think, do you know the reasons.

They were last year at the same stage but slowly they improved further at each stage. I think they are favourites to win if Dembele stays fit.

Looks fair enough - there are 4 Champions on our side of the draw and 2 Champions on the other side. Napoli and PSV were way off the qualifying (how did they actually thrash us for the biggest loss of the season?)

You got to beat them all at some point though to win it

This is now perfectly set for a Liverpool vs Bodo final and with the final in Budapest our Hungarian players will be extra motivated to get there and we will get double the tickets.

I don’t think it could have worked out any better.

We’re in the harder side of the draw. Arsenal have it easy.

We are definitely on the harder side of the draw, and in a strange way that might play to our strengths as our focus has been poor in games we should be expected to win handily.

Galatasaray will not be easy, but hopefully if we advance we might start to have one or two players coming back to give us more match winning options. Let’s see.

Arsenal are lucky on their side of the draw, but I would laugh my head off if Arteta is out-snided by Simeone’s Atletico side, and they don’t even make it to the final after it all opening up for them.

Better than AM, I guess, I just hope both sets of fans enjoy the spectacle and get home safely.

I watched the Juve-Galatasaray match this week, and although they pulled through, I was not impressed with Galatasaray. Turin is not known as a particularly daunting home crowd to face, but Galatasaray seemed intimidated. They were up 2 goals on aggregate facing a 10-man Juventus with 40 minutes left, they should never have gone to extra time. If this was a Klopp team, I’d be excited for the Anfield leg to see what a furious gegenpress to start off would achieve.

Have Arsenal had a single semi tough draw this season? (& I don’t mean semi final draws where that’s pretty much a guarantee)

They do seem to have been drawing Rutland FC and Narnia Athletic, whereas we have mostly drawn PL teams.

I wonder if there is a chance we get this guy :0)

Never forget that in 2023, just before the Champions League final, referee Szymon Marciniak was caught on camera practicing his yellow card technique in front of the mirror before kick-off

No, not a huge drop off. They do play in a much less competitive league, with a squad that is significantly better than their opponents, but I was intrigued enough to check it out.

At this point last season, the top 3 were;

  1. PSG - P 23, W 18, D 5, L 0, 59 Pts
  2. Marseille - P 23, W 14, D4, L 5, 46 Pts (13 points behind)
  3. Nice - P 23, W 12, D 7, L 4, 43 Pts

Right now;

  1. PSG - P 23, W 17, D 3, L 3, 54 Pts (so 5 points less than 24/25)
  2. Lens - P 23, W 17, D 1, L 5, 52 Pts (2 points behind)
  3. Lyon - P 23, W 14, D 3, L 6, 45 Pts

So the league isn’t cut and dry for them this season - they can’t take their eye off it like last season. They are down compared to last season.

In the CL group stage this season, PSG ended on 14 points. Last season 13, so not much difference. They won the Coupe de France last season, but got knocked out this season at the round of 32.

It’s my thinking… Arsenal meanwhile probably benefit from that, while we would probably go out of that 4.

Let’s see though, games are not won on diagrams
