UEFA Champions League

What a weird season for Benfica.

No chance for a trophy, even with this result pretty much safe for CL football (qualification), but in the QF.

Apart from the domestic Super Cup, they’re 3 years and counting without a major trophy.

Still have to take it 100% seriously, like we did with Porto a few times.

Athletico Madrid had no shots at goal tonight against City. The average position of all ten of their outfield players was in their own half. City’s all in their half but for one CB.

Not seen the highlights, but sounds like there was a lot of needle from Simeones team as usual.

Lets hope they make things tough for City next week before the FA cup tie.

Correa came on and within about 10 minutes blasted the ball into the face of a prone Grealish and started a ruckus. That was about the most proactive as they were the entire game.

Have to feel for City being up against such a shameless scumbag fucking team.

Lol jk fuck both of these fucking showers of shite.

Yeah, City were up to it just as much as Atleti were. Grealish feigned injury on that incident and then also participated in the hard man argy bargy afterwards. Pick one response, dickhead. And De Bruyne and Sterling both dived to try to win penalties with every bit of cynicism that a Simeone team has ever used.

I was hoping Diego The Madman would incite Pep (as he tried The Boss) with his touchline theatrics. Perhaps in the second leg. :crossed_fingers:

The snide bastards aren’t out of it yet. City are in for a night of hell when they go over there.

Hopefully.

De Bruyne lucky to escape a yellow that would have ruled him out of the second leg.

Much better than the previous round where they were 5 up after the first game.

You watched them instead of us or watched a replay of the game?

There stadium is one hell of a place when Diego Simeone gets them going…

It’s not going be comfortable I feel.

Yeah they don’t do that kind of stadium and atmosphere well. It will be a bear pit, no doubt, with a demented ogre running the touch line. They will do well to get out of this unscathed.

It’s @Limiescouse , watching both matches simultaneously is the only answer.

Simeone or Pep?

Pep’s more of a snow cone nosed fairy, tbh

Yup. There’s no chance this doesn’t affect them on Sunday, too. Pep needs the CL like you wouldn’t believe, I reckon it puts them off their game this weekend.

Meanwhile, we can relax knowing we’re two up and have a home second leg against Darwin Nunez and….checks notes ten other cunts.

I feel that we’re scratching for positives a bit. Yes, the tie is still close enough to be competitive, but Atlético losing without managing even a single shot is not encouraging.

You’re forgetting how they operate. That is classic Atleti in the away leg, just try to shithouse a draw or maybe go into the home leg down a goal, then crank up the shithousery in the second leg and try to snatch a win, or grind it out to pennos.

They turned up at City never intending to try to score.

Aye, plenty of ways it could have been better, but away to Atletico with the tie completely still in the balance is one of the worst, most draining scenarios a side can face. Yes City have got the advantage, but the most likely situation is still for the second leg to be an ugly and draining affair.

The obvious counter is it is the sort of milestone that can put wind under your wings for a short period if you come through it. For a team who has looked snippy in recent weeks, one the best things that could happen to them is to find themselves in a situation where they have to dig deep to come through and succeed.

Reckon Pep knows about this?

That’s a ridiculous statistic.
