That’s a call from 5 years ago - that DOGSO interpretation was exactly why the rule was changed. If there is a penalty, a red is only issued for a foul that would have earned a red anywhere else on the field. Tomori was not smart, maybe that holding is enough for a yellow, but no way is it a red. The only way it would have merited a red would be if it was just outside the box and he was clearly the last defender.
Not sure if it will help us that much.
What a BS penalty and red it was. Seen that holding a 100 times with Salah involved, but never seen them given a penalty, yellow or red.
Referees are betting nowadays on their own matches so it seems

I didn’t have a problem with the penalty part - defender repeatedly impeding the progress of an attacker with his hands, from behind. Just stupid defending, though not a particularly terrible foul. But the red is nonsense.
You see more severe holding on every corner every match.
Oh yeah…it is like the rules don’t apply for corners. But in that case with the ball where it was, the referee is not going to pretend he saw nothing.
Id take him on an 18 month loan with Milan covering his wages

That doesnt count if the foul was not a “footballing play”. Basically the harsher punishment is still in play to penalize cynical fouls that were done with the sole purpose of fouling, while being more lenient on more genuine mistakes.

Even if you told referee’s “ok from now on any ball that directly hits the hand i.e not ricoched off another part of the body first, then it’s a penalty.” they’d still get decisions wrong.
That was a very soft penalty a few minutes ago. Napoli doing us a favour.
