I lost brain cells listening to Braverman. How on earth did this incompetent numbskull get to this position?

James O’Brien hit on this yesterday.

The title is a bit click bait and off topic IMO but the content is quite damning

He says he hopes that it won’t be necessary to be as austere as under Cameron but promises nothing. I think effects of everything combined, will make it worse than then since unlike then, the UK seems to be broke now. Quadruple hit of Brexit, COVID, conservative governance and Russia’s invasions seems to have made a mortal wound, as far as I understand. Feel free to rectify me if I say anything wrong.

Before I came here I was just listening to Max Hastings lamenting the takeover of the Tory Party by the far right lunatic fringe. That Braverman woman absolutely epitomises what he was talking about.

Nothing wrong. Hunt is a hatchet man, and I fear he will cut public services while maintaining the status quo for those at the wealthy end of the scale. He will do this without flinching. I suspect we’ll get a repeat of Cameron’s Austerity package which was basically funnelling cash from the bottom into high end private business, not your small businesses and further increases in the UK’s debt.

What makes this infinately worse than under Cameron’s reign, bad as it became then for many, is the inflation, rocketing food and energy prices and general market and geopolitical unstability and uncertainty. The uncertainty and lack of confidence makes taking up loans more expensive and everything will just be so much worse.
Hit after hit for the average British household, many who are already struggling. I have no idea what the answer is but the coming time will be brutal.

Edit: Alright, infinately the wrong word, it is probably meassurable, but even so.

No I agree, it potentially will be worse if Hunt goes down the route that I think he will. Basically, being a hard core Conservative and hailing from Cameron’s time he will go back to those roots and try to follow a very similar path. That will get others in the party on board but I suspect will come with a heap of problems that they will gloss over.
