UK Politics Thread (Part 2)

This is probably the worst resignagtion letter I have read. An unsheated poisoned dagger aimed at her own government. It is cowardly, she his bluntly saying “none of the chaos is my fault, I have nothing to do with any of the policies that are chaotic or unpopular”. May her career be over.

‘The Tories wish it was a fairdinkum shitshow’ - me right now

Lol, I doubt that’s the reason:

Far Right not happy.

You are right, it isn’t.

Goldman Sachs were forecasting a recession anyway I think. They did list this as a factor as to why the recession may be deeper than they were first anticipating but they also said that by keeping the tax rise it may mean that the BoE raise interests less than they would have - and it is the impact from the rate rises I think that are the issue.

Tory MPs not voting for the government have started announcing themselves.

what better way to hedge bets (being an investment firm) than to play the shorts and then strike fear into the public by announcing a recession?

I am beginning to suspect that the salad head will beat her.

I doubt there is a forecasting model in the world that isn’t showing the UK going into a recession - as redfanman notes, Goldman was saying there would be a recession a month ago. The removal of tax cuts but the likely easing of interest rates just changes the shape. Makes it deeper but shorter.

I suspect there will be a massive number by tomorrow. Better to go down on a principle defending your constituents than defer to a PM to prop up a government that must collapse in a matter of days now. Even the most self-interested are not thinking about the next election, but the one after that.

It’s scummy betrayals and bloody attrocities everywhere. Insane.

I totally agree. I don’t understand how anyone thought this was the moment to hold everyone to a three line whip - the bill runs counter to the 2019 mandate which gives those who want one an excuse not to vote for it.

The scummy rats are not just leaving the ship, they are poisoning the drinking water and the provisions because they loath the captain and want to see him perish.
Remarkable.
