UK Politics Thread (Part 2)

I remember a PMQs where he almost had the stupid fat twat on the ropes and he said “That’s a detail for another day” or words to that effect and sat down. He has the most important job and he does the square root of fuck all. Same as Corbyn. Get somebody with some bollocks in, Angela Rayner.

Nah…a breast feeder if ever I saw one.

Nah, he’ll miss that too. It’s OK though, he’ll get the next one. If Labour blow this lead (and I suspect they will) it will make AC Milan in Turkey look competent.

YOU CAN’T SAY THAT!!!

If I was Starmer, would I do anything - no. What is there to gain? I would say he is playing a blinder…

In the end I’m not that invested in this “process” but, really, he just has to be present and do as little as possible (from my view point and possibly also that of the voters) to get across the line. Sadly it is the line that matters and the actual policy is neither here nor there, as I’m not sure the voters know what they want.

…and we return to your punch line (clue, it ends with “f***wits”)…

How can anybody who wants to win an election do nothing? Yes I know the famous quote about never doing anything to interrupt your opponent making mistakes but this isn’t Truss or Fat Bastard in charge now. Rishi is competent.

Newton’s first law.

Rishi is not doing a good job of showing he is competent. He is making no progress amongst voters. Polls may overstate Labour’s chances of winning Rishi is not moving the needle by any stretch of the imagination. If anything he is alienating more of them whether through the tax increases in the budget or doing nothing for the NHS.

Starmer has been announcing policies. We’re about 18 months off from an election so it is way too earlier to announce your policies for that election as events closer to the time may dictate different strategies.

Did you hear / read what he said today? An empty shirt reading an empty statement with empty phrases and an empty title. Please give me one Labour policy (beyond rhetoric) that’s been announced. Other than it will be better under us.

Who said a day is a long time in politics and we have maybe 700 till the next election.

EDIT…Apparently Wilson said a week is a long time in politics…but still we may have 100 of those too,

Bang on. Time’s a great healer.

Is he? Smart enough to know how to buy petrol or know what a party looks like?

The opposition’s job at the moment is purely to highlight government failings and in the case of the Tories, their profiteering and shafting of middle and lower classes.

The government’s response to everything at the moment is pandemic, vaccine rollout and got Brexit done. None of which have really been a success.

Personally I’m amazed at the number people blaming Blair for the last 12 years of a shit show. So factually disconnected from reality it’s almost a comedy show. A tragedy in reality.

Perhaps suggest an example of what you view as policy (as opposed to rhetoric) so you don’t get accused of shifting the goalposts when someone comes up with one?

I disagree. Aside from his maths obsession, he’s going for votes (boats). In a year I’d bet it will be neck and neck.

I can blame Blair for anything. He invented VAR and is Putin’s godfather.

OK, hang on….

From the BBC. Please tell me what he’s actually going to do:

Sir Keir Starmer has promised a new “take back control” bill to transfer powers from Westminster to communities.

In his first speech of 2023, the Labour leader - a former Remain supporter - said he wanted to turn the Brexit campaign slogan “into a solution”.

He pledged to devolve new powers over employment support, transport, energy, housing, culture and childcare.

Sir Keir said the legislation would be “a centrepiece” of Labour’s plans if it wins the next general election.

With the country facing severe pressure on the NHS, a wave of strike action and a cost-of-living crisis, Sir Keir said he was “under no illusions about the scale of the challenges we face”.

In his speech in east London, he promised a “decade of national renewal” under Labour and “hope” for the future.

But the Labour leader warned his party “won’t be able to spend our way” out of the “mess” he said would be left by the Conservatives.

If someone is digging their own grave just sit back and enjoy it!

Sunak is doing less than Starmer. All he has done recently is repeat what has been said, and been found wanting, before.

The whole migrant boat issue and Rwanda have been in the news for months but not really led to any significant bounce for Sunak. The NHS is a far bigger issue amongst voters, particularly Tory voters. His failure to step in and address this winters problems will lose him far more support than he can hope to get from the immigration debate.

His only hope is that inflation falls faster than anticipated and even then I don’t know if he can close the gap entirely. The % of energy bills people are expected to pay is going to increase further in April and we have an economy that looks like it will go into, if it isnt already, recession.

That’s a physical impossibility.
