UK Politics Thread (Part 2)

I wonder how many people in this world would identify only as either male or female if it hasn’t been rammed down their throats all their lives?

All of them?

You’ve got balls or tits. It’s not rocket science. Only a few hundred thousand years of evidence on this BTW.

Puberty isn’t the time to be giving young people the right to be making decisions about life-changing surgery.

That whole argument hinges on the idea that you know better for them than what they do for themselves however.

While I do agree that if society didn’t have these silly stereotypes or categorisation of gender and gendered behaviours some people may feel differently, especially with regards to dressing.

But I will say this, you don’t know how they feel about themselves. I will be very curious to see whether the outcome conforms to what your beliefs of them are. My suspicion is that you are probably a lot more wrong than you believe yourself to be.

You’ve been told many times over that biology is not this straightforward, and you refuse to believe it.

I’m not going to argue with someone who doesn’t understand basic biology and can’t accept that.

Why so?

They’re already allowed to get pregnant, and have abortions, or carry these children to term. How is any of that any less life-changing than gender reassignment surgery?

For the record, I’m not sure where I stand on the surgery point of view, hence these questions. But I do believe that the derogatory idea that “teenagers don’t know better for themselves” has long been exposed for the utter bullshit that it is.

‘allowed’ ? … these things happen. There is absolutely no equivalence with having the ability to surgically alter your sexual organs.

If your 16yr old was thinking about it , would you say ok your choice you’re old enough now , or would you prefer they waited 'til they were older before making such a decision ?

The earth’s flat, you’ve been told and you refuse to believe it. Quit with this line please, it’s ridiculous.

I can’t understand basic biology? Male and female is as basic as it gets. Quit with the condescension please, it’s tiresome.

I mean, I’m not stating it as a fact, I’m just giving my opinion which is based on actual conversations with my daughter and her friends.

If I’m wrong, I’d be suprised, but that would be the extent of it. It’s not like I’m telling them what to do with their lives one way of the other and have anything invested in the outcome.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m merely stating that the general argument that children should not be permitted to do something is based on the idea that adults know better than children what their desires are. Nothing on you personally.

So in your worldview intersex people don’t exist?

Do you have any evidence for the earth being flat though?

There’s ample evidence out there that biology is not as simple as your primitive mind.

Honestly, really?

Of course there are sensible people out there but let’s not forget that the UK voted Boris Johnson into no. 10 with an 80+ seat majority.

Everyone gets influenced by things somewhere along the lines. Everyone makes bad decisions but FFS there’s something very very wrong when a population of people believe that a fat blonde fuckwit with ambitions of being Churchill reincarnated is the best person to lead them.

We’re also the only country to ever vote to impose economic restrictions on ourselves.

The question was whether 16 year olds have the experience and knowledge to vote. I’ve purely extended that argument to other age groups and questioned them all, and rightly so imo. There’s a massive problem in the UK on how people receive and process information.

For the record I’ve no opinion on the topic of minimum age to vote, especially when the whole system of UK government and how it is propped up is as broken as it is.

Feel free to continue to be provocative if you like.

From Wiki
“Figures shown are average circulations for January of each year. Regardless of immediate source, all figures originate from the Audit Bureau of Circulations. In the 2020s, several newspapers stopped reporting circulation figures.”

These figure tell us a lot about the intelligence of the nation.

You mean the tiny minority who are actually born in the middle? Knew one at school, could have been andy or andrea, his parents and the surgeon chose andy. Would never have kids of his own but every bit a man now.

Wow, you got a three syllable word in there, well done you. Should we not be petty? I’m happy to not go ad hominem as I don’t want to get a ban but you insult away.

And BTW, my mind is a function of biology so QED your post is nonsense. Feel free to hurl insults if you feel the need but do please endeavour to make them coherent

Not being provocative, just putting it out there that for every 70 year old who’s read the Daily Express all his life, there’s one who hasn’t.

And for the record, I’m in agreement about Johnson.

But, whatever happens after the next general election, there will be 40% of the adult nation, telling another 40% of the adult nation that they got it wrong

Apologies, I misinterpreted the tone of your previous post. I do however believe there is something really broken with the UK electorate. Whether that means we should give 16 year olds the vote I couldn’t say.

Could things get any worse if they were allowed to vote? Not convinced it would, we’re scaping the bottom of the barrel already

But would trust them more than old people who don’t have to live with the ramifications of their decisions
