Watched part one last night. Whatever you think about Kuenssberg, it is fascinating for anyone whoâs been following the extraordinary workings of the Tories since Brexit.
Itâs annoying and painful to watch in parts, and youâll probably end up shouting at the TV, but it shows them for what they are, a bunch of entitled self-serving egoists, totally uncaring about the people they are supposed to be serving.
Iâm not sure whether I could stomach seeing this and I regard Kuenssberg as being part of the problem: a government propagandist, not a public service journalist. Iâm not sure she should be presenting this - she should be one of the ones interviewed.
Do they even touch on the treatment of EU/UK families? I do have some sympathy for May because it was a completely impossible situation but the fact that those most affected by this had to rely on foreign governments to fight their corner it completely unforgivable. I still come across a lot of former servicemen in Germany who feel massively betrayed by the UK in general and the Tories in particular.
Itâs mostly about the internal machinations of the government to be honest, the public only appear as crowds of protestors in the distance. However, it gives a pretty accurate and disturbing view of life in the Westminster bubble and that is undoubtedly how they see the world.
Kuenssberg has access to inside sources who speak very candidly about what was happening in the corridors of power and is otherwise an incredulous observer.
I donât live in the UK, and have not developed the intense antipathy to her that seems to be prevalent. For me itâs just an interesting behind the scenes view of recent events.
I left in 2019. However, I found it infuriating that not only would she not pick up on politicians lying but she would actively pass on falsehoods as if they were fact. Youâve probably seen the memes of her dressed as a North Korean news reader and that is pretty much the role that she was performing.
We were stuck in the position of being a mixed nationality family so there was some reason why the German government would be helping us but I have a friend down in Paderborn who is a retired soldier with a British wife and he received no help whatsoever from the UK. The UK government actually cut back on consular support at exactly the time that it would be needed. In fact it was the local AuslÀnderbehörde that sorted most of their details including things like dealing with the UK pensions office which is entirely out of their remit.
I donât think people in the UK realise just how shoddily they treated their own nationals.
A North Korean would never be able to make a programme like this about their government though.
There are millions in the UK and abroad who have been treated badly by the Tories in this, and other, iterations. Itâs appalling that they would do that to people who are serving the country. It just exemplifies their venality.
I still think you should watch the programme for an insight into how they think and work.
One pesticide that should be of particular concern in the UK is the use of neonicotinoids. These were banned in the EU back in 2018 but there were applications for emergency use after that. Most of the UK ones have been for use on sugar crops.
These have since been banned outright in the EU and they will also apply a ban on imports that contain traces from 2026. Given that it is used on sugar that could cause a knock on effect to the whole UK food processing industry which is still one of the biggest in Europe and a major UK export industry.
Aside from the economics, these chemicals have a terrible effect on the local environment. Surely there is something to be said for not fouling your own nest?
Thanks for the reminder , Iâll definitely be giving it a watch on i-player.
Iâve just finished reading Tom Bowerâs updated (to include his downfall) Boris Johnson biography. The sections that deal with both Sajid Javid and Dominic Cummingsâ defenestrations are jaw dropping. This was palace politics at its most self -serving , and a window into the revolving door of Westminster , Whitehall and the Fourth Estate. (Carrie Symonds is portrayed very badly in particular.) Needless to say , the considerations of the good of the country are usually a distant second.
Might not be standard but the thing is you can pretty much buy this off the shelf.
That site is quite cool, 300K you can customise expandable trailer, with walls/floors, the steps, wheelchair ramp, floor heating, air conditioning, lighting, generator, plug sockets etc.
basically only thing you would need to buy are the truck (Mercedes truck costs 90K)
Makes me laugh that some might think this a genuine question
I canât speak for him but I can assure you he isnât in my cellar for two very good reasons. One itâs full of really expensive wine and 2 it doesnât exist. New houses built on mining land are just a BIG slab of concrete.
