UK Politics Thread (Part 3)

Back to stupid people then.
Fuck me, a blind man on a galloping horse could see that coming out of Europe would involve border checks.
Border checks were also fully enforced when we were in Europe

Not at all, it’s just that the world has it’s share of fuckwits as well. Well not as many proportionately to England but it’s still a fair share.

And yet we were repeatedly told nothing would change.

Congratulations for seeing through it.

:joy:
No congratulations needed for me.
But actually thinking or believing nothing would change when leaving Europe brings us right back to stupid people.

We leave the EU, nothing will change. Liverpool sell to Quatar, there will be no protests.

About right.

If you think Politics is being on the winning team, I feel sorry for you.

If the BNP had a massive surge would you jump ship to them? I mean fuck the policies, it’s all about winning. Right?

I once, I shit you not, saw a British women have an absolute shitfit in a Spanish restaurant because she had assumed the Paella would be a Pie.

I think generally, as long as we don’t behave like dicks we’re pretty much welcome. A lot of Brits do tend to act like dicks, though.

I don’t know why this is difficult.

The chaos at Dover isn’t an argument between peak demand and Brexit. It’s both those things. It’s a naturally busy time. Brexit makes it worse.

Like going to the supermarket on a Saturday morning. It’s busy. There will be queues at the checkouts.

Now make it do everyone has to have their payment cards triple checked. Suddenly those busy checkouts are going to get a lot busier.

It’s not difficult.
Why would they be triple checked?
Pre Brexit, you still needed to produce your passport to enter France.

Presume you saw the recent story about Amsterdam?

None from me, I’ll be gone.

Well said.

We need a facepalm emoji.

Brits and Americans are sort of in a global race as worst tourists. Russians are bad too, but they have a different dimension to them.

Previously it was a simple form of ID. No further processing was required. Now it requires a check to make sure that the individual has not overstayed their 90 day Schengen limit and to stamp it. That doesn’t take long but for an entire ship / plane / Eurostar load it adds up. If there are a few people it isn’t much of an issue but if the processing hasn’t finished by the time the next ship / plane / Eurostar arrives it will cause a backlog.

Yep, they show up with tanks.

Agreed

Actually, good catch on that correction. It is very much an English thing.

Do you honestly not understand the difference between an inspector having a cursory glance at your passport, and having to check your visa status, stamp your passport and verify you are within the terms of entry?

I travel to France at least 4 times a year to stay with my daughter and have never been in any queue. Never had to produce a visa…and the ferry, Newhaven to Dieppe, is a doddle at both ends.

Exporting my company products though …nightmare now. We have opted out of supplying to Europe completely…just not worth the hassle

Do you honestly think a cursory glance at a passport was all that was required to enter a foreign country?
Passports have been digital for years now, so scanning was required and I assume details uploaded and checked for validity.

Cursory glance :joy:
