UK Politics Thread (Part 4)

There’s been a whole lot of speculation (government leaks) on possible policies to raise additional revenue recently also. I dont think many are popular. Lots of discussion on a wealth tax but not a lot on the detail.

Rock and a hard place.

There are no popular revenue sources. But the UK is running out of room, increase revenue or cut expenses.

Certainly not the only government facing that problem though, 30-year yields are at similar highs in several countries, not least of which is the US.

It’s as if all the revenue capacity has been ripped out of the system and has disappeared somewhere?

Just because she is the Secretary of State for Housing doesn’t mean she should know the rules for paying stamp duty on house purchases now does it?

Dumb.

The last rat resigned when her financial skullduggery was exposed, don’t see any reason why this one shouldn’t follow suit.

Ah yes. Here we go. A scandal that’s a resigning offence if you are Labour, and barely touches the fucking sides if you’re Tory/Reform.

I get it’s not great, but it’s not like you send in a cheque. Paid stamp duty a few years ago, just did what the solicitor told me to.

That’s not the point though is it? It is the fact that she declared the apartment she bought in Hove as her primary residence…instead of the house she owned in her Manchester constituency.

My underatsnding is she did not own any of the Machester house when she bought the Hove flat.

If that’s aimed at me I despise them all and view them as 2 cheeks of the same shit-smeared arse. Both complicit in the fact this country is now a fucking third rate shithole.

Ah yes. They are both equally complicit. Labour with their year in power, and the Tories for the 14 before that.

With the way they dropped the Housing(?) secretary for doing something politically dubious but perfectly legal, there isn’t going to be much cover for anything that actually breaks rules.

I do find it remarkable how quickly discussion of Badenoch’s patently false Stanford story has dropped away. But big picture, all of this is soap opera stuff that really doesn’t inform the British public about the massive challenge the Starmer government is heading into this Autumn.

I think it might hint at how far out of the picture the conservatives have fallen despite being the official opposition.

For the record, I said dumb because it doesnt take Einstein to figure out that this government would be under more scrutiny than any government before it.

And then they do stuff like this which just feeds the sausage machine. It’s just free ammo when the guns are already loaded.

Reality no longer plays a significant role in UK politics anymore. Like the US it’s a twisted mess based largely on rhetoric.

Ah yes. It’s incredible the great British public voted the Tories back in when you consider the halcyon days under Blair and Brown between 1997 and 2010 isn’t it?
A time when the NHS ran like a well-oiled machine. The country a crime-free Utopia, Bobbies on the beat, the trains running like a Swiss watch, no housing crisis, school places for all and no kids living in poverty, no national debt running into trillions, pristine roads and crystal-clear rivers and lakes.
Remember those days? Because I fucking don’t.
It’s been a steady slide into the irreversible cesspit the country is today regardless of who was in power. Labour have had their chances and failed. The Tories have had their chances and failed.
I don’t care who the biggest cunts are. At least with the Tories you know what type of cunt you’re getting.
Just face up to it, it’s been a steady decline under them both. The same problems exist today that existed in the 70’s and 80’s only they’re a lot worse today in many cases. But it looks like people have finally had enough of the pair of them and they only have themselves to blame.

The problem with that attitude is the tories are light years worse and saying they are equivalent empowers the tories to continue their plan to turn the UK into an irreversible cesspit.
