UK Politics Thread (Part 4)

This decision only partially to do with politis though, if you look into the issue, the decision was actually made based on intelligence and information related to Maccabi Tel Aviv fans night of violence and hooliganism in Amsterdam during a Europa League match in 2024. This would be information that West Midlands police will have been provided through FA, KNVB, EUFA and through police channels. Their next Europa game was moved to Hungary after Turkish authorities refused to allow the game to go ahead, the Hungarian FA played it behind closed doors to prevent fan problems

Where indeed is the United Kingdom? Look at the Italian PM. Biting her lip and struggling to keep a straight face.

You’re correct for once. I am being deliberately obtuse.

You sure about that? You can obviously vote any way you feel.

This is only partly true. Reform and their backers have made immigration the prime topic. It shouldnt be. Its not being aloof or anything else, its people who actually understand the core issues vs those that believe they do. Brexit was exactly the same.

Reform have been so successful at this they’ve convinced a large section of people in Caerffili (upcoming election next week) that immigration is a problem in a town that has 2.9% non white. Immigration can be a concern, but understand why it is and what the actual facts are. Most people dont and I include sections of the media in that.

The real issues should be “where has all the money and assets gone?” Why is the NHS in the gutter? Why are schools crap? Why aren’t my bins being collected?

This is just naive.
How much do you think its possible to spend in a week being a millionaire and not buying any assets? Just buying the best food etc.

Meanwhile as a really rough example, you have £1bn, £1,000,000,000 in the bank. At 4% interest you earn £40 million a year. That’s nearly £770,000 per week in interest alone. Try spending that on food and bills every week. Do what to do with all this spare cash and keep it out of reach of inflation and tax.

Here’s a research film for you that explains this.

I presume you mean billionaire. In terms of assets, mainly property, practically every house owner within 1 mile radius of me must be a millionaire or almost so. Asset rich certainly.. but cash rich?. far less so.

Weren’t those at the back just sharing a joke and all laughing just before Trump started wondering where the UK is?
Are you completely socially unaware?

Nope..but I think world leaders smirking and giggling like school children at a so called peace conference regarding a war that has killed maybe 60000 people could demonstrate a measure of social unawareness. Don’t you?

ERM, so yes should have been your answer.
I suppose at least Starter was looking completely gormless all the way through.

Either way really. There’s a good reason why the very wealthy dont hoard cash. My post leads into that.

There is nothing uncivil about that reply.

Let’s have a look at Reform, against these characteristics of fascism, from Keene State College.

1. Powerful, often exclusionary, populist nationalism centered on cult of a redemptive, “infallible” leader who never admits mistakes.

Yep.

3. Political power derived from questioning reality, endorsing myth and rage, and promoting lies.

Yep.

5. Fixation with perceived national decline, humiliation, or victimhood.

Yep

6. White Replacement “Theory” used to show that democratic ideals of freedom and equality are a threat.

Oppose any initiatives or institutions that are racially, ethnically, or religiously harmonious.

Not, quite such a hard yes, but they are getting there. They are very against human rights, EDI initiatives and similar inclusion initiatives.

7. Disdain for human rights while seeking purity and cleansing for those they define as part of the nation.

Hard yes.

8. Identification of “enemies”/scapegoats as a unifying cause. Imprison and/or murder opposition and minority group leaders.

Certainly a yes to first part of that statement.

10. Supremacy of the military and embrace of paramilitarism in an uneasy, but effective collaboration with traditional elites. Fascists arm people and justify and glorify violence as “redemptive”

Not a hard yes, but we’ve seen how Farage has allied himself with the violent thugs behind recent riots and stoked a violent response to events.

11. Rampant sexism.

Yes, although it is going under the radar. Reform have voted against measures to protect women and girls, and are generally in favour of traditional family roles for women.

12. Control of mass media and undermining “truth”.

Yes.

14. Obsession with national security, crime and punishment, and fostering a sense of the nation under attack.

Yes

15. Religion and government are intertwined.

Not so much

16. Corporate power is protected and labor power is suppressed.

Possible more than anything else, Reform aim to increase corporate power and suppress labour rights. Hard yes.

17. Disdain for intellectuals and the arts not aligned with the fascist narrative.

Unsure. I don’t really know what Reform’s approach to the arts is.

18. Rampant cronyism and corruption. Loyalty to the leader is paramount and often more important than competence.

Yes.

20. Fraudulent elections and creation of a one-party state.

Not yet

21. Often seeking to expand territory through armed conflict.

Not yet

It should not be controversial to call a party that meets so many markers of facism, fascist. We can’t sleepwalk into a dystopia because of fucking politeness.

They’ve gone against established science. Firstly on Climate Change, being fully on board with the Climate hoax narrative. No surprise given they are financed by oil money.
Also vaccines and covid hoaxes. Their health advisor thinks covid vaccines gave the royal family cancer. Farage would not admit RFK is wrong on autism and paracetamol.

100%. I give you Nathan Gill. Pleaded guilty to taking bribes from Russia.
Haven’t they just given a council leader a 600% pay rise too?

Politeness or stupidity.

Take your pick.

One wonders if the gammons that hate pitch invasions and the like when it’s Just Stop Oil doing it will be up in arms about this.

It’s remarkable how silent these folks are when our energy bills go up, or food inflation increases, both genuinely people’s health and quality of life, but nope, that’s not worth kicking up a fuss over. Gary Neville talking about the flag being used to divide us is a step too far for them though.

Apparently it was “Britain First” behind it. I thought they were proscribed, but apparently not.

Surely “GB News viewers more likely to be misinformed” would suffice?

Yup. It’s staggering to me that they have a licence to broadcast when all they do is pump out misinformation and Farage sanctioned lies.

All the time the poor BBC is tripping up over its own feet trying to be impartial.

But I also thought it was interesting that net migration has fallen sharply over the last year, when the impression you’d get from the national discourse is the exact opposite.
