Will still need to meet the required level set in NYT vs Sullivan which are pretty damn high, hence why you rarely see anyone famous try to sue for defimation, especially sueing the media.
This will help understand why his chances are slim

Bullshit.
They (the programme makers) made an editorial error, corrected the public record and apologised. That should be end of matter.
Outside that single edit, everything the programme makers alleged was true. He did encourage the rioters to storm the capitol. He continually alleged electoral fraud. He whipped them up into a frenzy, told them to fight and said he would protect them. He fucking pardoned them all as soon as he got in. What more do you want.
This lawsuit is the action of autocratic, despotic bully intent on silencing criticism and accountability, and you should be ashamed of yourself for supporting it.
I respectfully disagree. Growth under the last Labour governnent was good until 2008. The chart below shows the last Labour government having the best growth of any government in the last 50 years. Admittedly there were issues on how some of that was achieved.
That said, Iām not sure any of the main parties would fare any better in the current climate. The actions of previous governments (all of them going back 50 years) has basically made it extremely difficult for the government to generate cash and push through investment which can drive growth.
No, and I doubt itās the intention. Heāll be looking for a settlement.
The real aim is intimidate and undermine the free press scrutiny of his presidency. He wants to create a culture of fear so he does not face the accountability that should be the case for all public figures, and especially presidents.
He wont even get that as he still won the election and has profited personally so wont get any financial compensation as he suffered no lose
Hardly scandalous when he actually said the things. Just an editting issue. Anyway who cares?
You have to care. BBC lied. Time to close them down. Even if itās Trump.
Time to close them down, and let the full media space to the likes of the Daily Fail and the S*n. ![]()
No they didnāt lie they just misled.
Your the one lying or are you just misleading?
None of this is honest and honesty is what we really require in these days of complete lunacy. Not more lunacy as we are seeing.
You got to keep them separated!
Seems a very drastic measure. Close down the Beeb because of a small mistake, within a larger program where the thrust of it was spot on?
Crazy talk.
Especially when you consider the alternate media options. The likes of the Beeb is an important bastion in having some sort of free speech, and also in knowing what is going on. The alternate is billionaires owning the media, telling us what they want us to know, and stoking up fears so we are all against each other.
Trumpās game is all about money, power and sex. Which of the three are served in his case against he Beeb? Certainly power. He wants to curtail the free press. He is doing that in America and bending media outlets to his wishes. He will get short shrift trying the same thing on in a free country like the UK.
He may hope for a settlement, which would satisfy another of his three chief vices. The Beeb is a publicly funded outfit, and does not have oodles of cash to just throw tens of millions this way and that, for superfluous lawsuits, so again, I think heās going to get short shrift.
The Beeb made a mistake, but you canāt overreact to that and call for it to be disbanded.
Itās not a small mistake. Itās systemic bias from an institution allegedly independent.
Fair points well made. If we properly scrutinised all the UK press to the same degree, there wouldnāt be much left at all.
Agree with that but they do not claim to be hollier than thou as the BBC do.
Dunno, the Telegraph and Mail seem to think a lot of themselves.
The Panorama programme was spot on.
One spliced clip from the Beeb did not change the overall message one jot.
They would crucify Labour or a party of the left if they couldnāt spell their country correctly on campaign material. Tories? Itās Starmers faultā¦
I knew you were a Britian-hater!!
Rule Britiannia!!!
St Goerge Forever!!!
I personally view the BBC as the most independent and trustworthy media source. The problem the BBC has is trying to provide News about issues that are in the publics interest without being questioned on its impartiality.
It has been subject to accusations from both the Left and the Right of political bias, which I personally donāt see - definitely not systematically.
My concerns with the BBC is that if it is not careful it will lose its credibility. Trump understands the importance of the BBCās credibility and by being able to discredit the BBC it gives him licence to call out any other media organisation that runs stories against him. If the BBC are trying to portray him in a negative way falselyā¦.then so could anyone.
The BBC use Production companies who may not be impartial, may have an agenda so it is important that programmes about sensitive issues are fully scrutinised.
It was almost accepted that Trump was going to be re-elected, the title of the documentary pretty much states that and so the BBC should have had their Legal team all over it from the start.
They should have also addressed the concerns of Michael Prescott but chose not to or with little urgency. These issues along with others need to be addressed immediately.
There will always be blame (rightly or wrongly) placed on the RW media, I can guess that on other discussion forums the same blame is placed on LW media.
Society needs both RW and LW media so that either side are challenged/held to account but more importantly there needs to be a media source that tries to balance things out, put a perspective on things, the BBC provides this which is why it is so important they get their house in order.
