Well,she is a bit strange!

It’s in the job, I guess.

I haven’t had the chance to review the majority of her exchange. So I am only aware of one reference where she refers to going easy on someone who is on their first day in a job.

Like with many Shadow leaders she will try and pull up the current Government on what they view as its shortcomings.
I am ready to be shot down, but I think she is quite good and a strong leader of the opposition. I am not saying I want the Tories in power but it’s about time we had a strong opposition. One of the problems with the recent Labour and Tory leaderships is that have for far too long got away with not delivering because of weak opposition.
As it has been pointed out on this thread before, we had 14 years of Tory Austerity, would this have happened if there was a stronger opposition party?
I am all for Kemi being a strong leader of the opposition, if it results in Burnham being and even stronger PM.

She has had time to settle into the role, but I get the impression that she is still alienating traditional Conservative voters by trying to appeal to Reform voters. I heard recently that she wanted to bar any potential candidate who didn’t back leaving the ECHR. Now if I was to pick core Conservative values, it would definitely include the rule of law, and individual freedom.

Now they may try to sell this as sovereignty, or British values or something, but it I suspect it still jars with a lot of people as being rather vulgar.

It’s a myth, really. When’s the last time you had a really tasty PMQs? It only exists when you have a PM already on the ropes.

I am trying to evaluate it without the alienation that is becoming ever common in today’s politics both at Party level and the electorate.
I think we focus too much on predetermined opinions and dated values/principles and that is across all parties.
I aim this comment to all parties but in particular the two main parties. In trying to appease a very fractured electorate, one that has a more colourful expectation from their Party and a louder voice to express it with, they have become confused as to what they stand for.

I think both Parties are guilty of moving towards Reform voters but if that is where the common vote lies then they would be stupid to ignore this.
The issue that I have and continue to point out is that society has changed, there is reduced importance in the Unions which is evident in Labours approach. People’s concerns are completely different to the 1970s and yet there is still a reluctance for party aligned voters to accept this. They are still expecting their Party to maintain the original policies.

All I want is strong leadership, a Government that has a plan, and commits to this plan but is willing to adapt, even if it means upsetting people. Unfortunately, we have been guilty of trying to appease everyone, which has been proven to not work.

I suspect it is a feature of the electoral system. They don’t have to please everyone, just a significant concentration of votes to win FPTP.

I’m wondering if Burnham will press ahead with electoral reform. The problem is, that is a hard sell to his own party, as he would essentially be telling half his MPs that they were being sacrificed for the greater good.

Starmer had a few. Personally, I would rather there be no tasty PMQs because it should hopefully mean that the Government is doing a good job. Like with most things in life, healthy competition usually results in better performances. Sadly, Politics is one of those areas that doesn’t follow this trend.

Watch yourself if those splinters in your arse turn green.

I agree to a certain point, however, I feel that they have to be seen to appeasing all walks of life but usually falls in line with the popular political soundbite from either side.
I am going to be controversial but the Socialist views are always considered morally correct and commonly they are, but they do not always reflect society and are not always practical. There is then a stigma placed on anyone who holds views slightly different, no matter how diluted.
We are generally incapable of listening and understanding each other. Stubborn and more interested in shutting each other down. Ones persons problem maybe completely different to another’s, but until we try and understand society will continue to be divisive.

I am not sure if i understand your post. I have interpreted it as me sitting on the fence?

From a conservative point of view in western Europe, it was always Christianity that was used as the moral basis. In fact, the German centre-right are still known as Christian Democrats.

Possibly, socialist policies get that impression because they are a broader church (pun intended). The Conservative leadership seem to be playing that side down. Theresa May was probably the last leader that was unabashedly Church Of England.

I will be honest, I haven’t given it much thought and I hope I haven’t misinterpreted your point. But on a brief reflection and please don’t take this as a matter of fact, I think the UK is probably one notable Western European countries that has distanced itself from being ruled by Christian values.

I had a more extended response, but was aware that it may not be related to your point.

Sadiq Khan has fallen foul to scammers registering cars in his name:

The real scandal here is the lack of basic cross checking by the DVLA. It’s obviously illegal, but anyone could do the same thing, whether as a prank or malicious purposes.

Burnham. Absolute chancer. No plan. Same old labour tax the rich.

It’s just depressing. Now if you wear a T-shirt people think you are cool.

Don’t forget the eyeliner.

Here is the issue. Labour have got to raise money somehow, and the tax burden is already crippling the working class and middle class. Attacking benefits and reducing spend is fantasy land.

Just read he’s been meeting with Macron today and we’re sending another 45 plod over to France to do their policing for them.
Money has to come from somewhere though, Wellies aren’t cheap these days.

Surprised we have enough with the manpower needed to peel these fucking idiots off the tarmac.

Yeah but how much can you tax. We are at a limit. Even if you say the rich need to pay. Save welfare.

Starmer, Burnham, Sunak. Lightweights.

Johnson. Smart guy. Wasted his votes by being a buffoon.

Why is it fantasy land. Fantasy to see the Labour Party have the balls to address it. Needs addressing. That’s it. It’s out of hand. It’s not a safety net. It’s a payday for many.

Fantasy is doing the same thing. Failing to see reality. Back bench mps stopping anything.

Lightweight loser with no track record but a T-shirt in charge. Fucking criminal. Whether you are left or right.
