Fuel duty was cut in Germany recently which knocked about 20 cents of the price. Diesel is now about the same as the UK, but petrol is still considerably more.

Looking at the petrol station on Scotland Road it is quoting £1.75 / litre for unleaded (presumably E10?). Our local filling station in Germany is around £1.90 equivalent.

At one time the UK was significantly more expensive, but it hasn’t been for quite a while.

Tax the rich. Or inheritance. It will pay for gas.

Or make everyone who catches a bus pay £20 :grimacing:

I have a free bus pass, free prescriptions and don’t pay income tax.
I am a drain on the state and I fucking love it!

It’s Labour, Burnham. Back to the 70s. Tax bus passes. Or make them a public company.

It’s a strange one. I only have a general gist of what my local Councillor stands for, yet I vote for him because I have seen him and so I know he exists.
I also admire his passion for sport, as he always brings his baseball bat and the rest of the team to welcome us at the local polling station .

On a serious note, for me presence goes a long way in local elections, more so than their policies. I vote for him because his attendance shows that he cares. For example, I was washing my car and he pulled up alongside me and stopped to engage in conversation. For me that goes along way and gains respect.

Whilst writing this post I have noticed that the gentleman I refer to - Zaker Choudry - has become the Lord Mayor of Birmingham. Fair play to him.

It is already part of Labours massive plan which, according to the link, should be showing signs of success and being expanded into other areas….

They are rolling this out in the Liverpool City Region. I noticed something yesterday, which is that they are putting circular bus services from the main population areas to the major hospitals on the Wirral. It’s a small thing, but it’s something that the privatised services had completely failed on.

It doesn’t matter who is PM or what party. People will find issues with the way they look, what shoes they wear, how many people they shag and every political decision they make.
Something like bus fares/services doesn’t mean a great deal to people who don’t rely on public transport. In Wales, i think it’s everywhere, it is £1 for a person aged 5 an to 21, to go on singlle journey. It is not £2 for 22-60 though.

Simple things like a circular service can relieve so much stress for a person.

Burham thick as thieves with this lot??

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10/08/andy-burnham-taxpayer-loan-united-arab-emirates-housing/

They built houses and repaid the money with interest. It is a committee. Money was also put in from other sources from mansour?
Feels a bit witch hunty. I know the fund was not meant for wealthy people but it makes more sense to loan it to people that can afford to repay it , than to take a punt and lose money, especially when it’s gotta be repaid in full in 2028. Probably shouldn’t have been loaned to them, because of the aims of the fund, but i can see why it was, economically.

Yeah.
Hopefully it can help them clear their name?

what the heck does that have to do with anything? :joy: I am just commenting on the article. I wasn’t saying you were being witch hunty, btw. Burnham was the MP for Area i resided in when i was a young adult. He’s well liked by people that i know. I want him to do well because he helped a member of my family with a few issues.

While, @ZinedineBiscan has washed his hands of this, the rules the mod put down still apply. Play the ball not the man, avoid personal remarks, and don’t antagonise.

So, for a post that’s only intent is to bait another poster, @Dane can have some time off.

Increased to a week for responding with a laughing emoji. FFS.

You forgot to mention how they eat a sandwich which really just goes to show how fickle and vindictive ‘voters’ are a real wtf debate.

I absolutely fecking hate Burnham and them all. It’s all about election. Winning. Tribe. Nothing about country. Say what you need to win an election. That does not change anything.

Political life and their people are ruining the country.
