He’s been a free-kick taker for Celtic too. Always wondered why that facet of his play wasn’t there at Liverpool.
Probably because he was surrounded by much better players.
Think some players at his age are also wary of taking shots from long distance, sometimes it can carry a risk of injury. But Virgil’s numbers are pretty good regardless, both in club and international career.
Shots from distance in general are much more of a fan thing anyway, Graham recently spoke about how Coutinho for example started taking too many.

I remember years ago a discussion about how goal of the season in England used to be someone wellying it from 30 or 40 yards out, while in Spain and other countries it was a well crafted move into the box and a good finish

Gerrard, the great shooter, from a point where he was exactly around that age said that he had to think twice before taking some shots.
