They are slides. For them to be a thongs they need a piece of fabric to get into the crack between your big and second toe the way the other type of thing flosses the arse crack. This is not a question of geographical difference in terminology, as calling these thongs without the flossing makes no sense at all even for a bunch for flaming galah drongos
