Welcome to Liverpool - Florian Wirtz

Three times in one thread feels like plenty for that keepy-uppies tweet…

Hey guys, take good care of our “Fussballgott”.
Congrats for this huge signing.

What do you think. Is Jarell Quansah a good signing for us?

He’s got potential. But he needs to get more consistency in his game. Way too many mistakes and poor decision making.

Probably playing week in and week out will allow him to get better.

I’m not complaining on the 30m odd that Liverpool are getting. It’s a fair price. But he’ll need to improve.

Could be, he’s still young for a CB and is learning his trade, but he’s already a decent player. A lot of us would have preferred him to go on loan and see how he develops.

You dont know how much is just nice tidbit for the story vs how pivotal it actually was, but the bit about him being really impressed by our facilities raises the interesting question of whether we’d have been in such a strong position to sign him had we not had the luck of drawing leverkusen in the CL draw last season. We exposed him first hand to how good we can be in what was one of our best performances of the season, and then the day later he got to spend time at Kirby as Leverkusen trained there in the morning before heading home and was reported to have been blown away by the experience.

The coffee bar remains undefeated

He’s a player with loads of potential: quick despite of being tall, excellent close control an annd passing skills, and a good vision of the game. He made a few mistakes last season at bad moments, and Slot lost his confidence in him a bit. But he’s a cool lad and if played regularly, you’ll get an already good CB who can also play at RB, with a lot of room for improvement. He’s still very young, so the question of confidence will be crucial.

I for one hope that if the transfer goes through, the clubs will agree on a priority for LFC to buy him back if he comes good. He’s a local lad after all, and could eventually become a big-club player.

Just realised that I haven’t yet appropriately expressed my satisfaction after the big move being confirmed. So here goes …

He has a tendency of making high-profile mistakes and he’s also been really unlucky in some cases, but he’s got a lot going for him and he obviously has a high ceiling. In all honestly, I wouldn’t sell him.

On paper, he seems like a smart signing for Leverkusen. In practice, it will come down to how much patience and latitude he is given like all young players. He is also going to need better luck than what he had with us.

What’s with the empty seat next to him with a subtle England flag on it…?

Did @Nikola hijack your account?

Think reserved for Marc Guehi

I dont know why you deleted it as I thought it was a fair point.

My question is how much airplay does the “how do you play Wirtz and Musiala on the same team?” dilemma get when talking about the international team? To me it seems a bit like your own version of England’s old Gerrard-Lampard issue, and you could understand why the player might have been less sold on a Bayern move than the conventional wisdom for that being his obvious destination.

Yeah, much discussed in Germany, how to play both together, though more when talking about the (now failed, ha ha) Bayern transfer than the national team, where there’s really not that much of a choice, they both need to be on the pitch for Germany if possible imo. Makes total sense for being a factor in Flo’s decision.
That and we’re just cooler and better in every way. And the coffee bar.

We should of just signed his shadow, it has way better ball control.

Klopp :

“It’s going to be really, really great, I’m sure of it,” the Reds’ long-time, successful coach told RTL/ntv.
The English champions already had “a fantastic team” last season, Klopp said: “It’s very difficult to strengthen them when you’re the champions. But Liverpool managed that. They’ve signed an exceptional talent in Florian Wirtz. I’m looking forward to seeing it. It’s going to be great.”

Is he press resistant? :eyes:

Resistant?

He’s in the calibre of those who crave players pressing him so he can fool them.

:joy:

But he’s in the part of the pitch where most teams will try to defend him with more than one player.

I think Wirtz will be the most fouled player next season
