Welcome to the club! From what I’ve seen he looks very athletic and a good shot stopper but his game is all about blocking, deflecting and parrying - very rarely actually catching and holding on to the ball.
You’ll get some excellent highlights of spectacular saves when he plays but I worry about the number we could concede from rebounds, follow ups or second phases of play from loose balls so I hope for the year ahead the coaches focus on this aspect of his game.
Hopefully working with and learning from Ali he will be able to build on his natural ability and add some refinement and decision making so he will be ready to take over when the time comes - as second choice for now he is probably already better than some teams first choice cough Onana cough
I’m no expert but I followed Georgian national team closely at the last Euros, like everyone else, and I noticed that his parrying technique was great (that actually caught my attention because Alisson does that really well). They tend to guide the ball in parallel to the line, that must be extremely difficult to get right.
He’ll need time to bed in, hopefully the changes made in the GK coaching setup prove fruitful. That worries me more than the goalkeepers themselves, to be honest.
That’s the modern goal keeper game. Even Alisson doesn’t go for the ball as much as I would like.
Infact in a match last season , Virgil had to tell Alisson to hold on to the ball when we needed it and he was instead parrying and punching the ball like he usually does.
He’s been added to the website. I image there’ll be an interview on there soon, but they’ll probably wait a couple more days before that given everything else
