I dont doubt Souness’ explanation at all. He has been pretty consistent with it. It is just a shocking example of getting it spectacularly wrong. Like deciding you want to lose weight and eating pizza every night to achieve that

That is actually possible, while creating a decent team around Ruddock and Dicks is not.

Hodgson was lowest for me. Just did not know what he was manager of at all. A complete swing and a miss.

You have to remember with Souness as well that he came in from Rangers where he was seen as a winner, returning them to the top in a much more competitive era in Scottish futbah.

In truth it was Walter Smith who was the brains behind that one. Rather ironic that he ended up at Everton.

People won’t believe me, I know, but I couldn’t finish the article - I genuinely felt sick reading this. I genuinely can’t remember reading anything that stirred so many bad memories at once. Yeah, it was that bad - and juxtaposed with where the club is at the moment, it only gets worse.
