Crikey what a rough weekend weather wise. Friday was mental. Saturday, rough but brightened up for an hour, only or Sunday, especially Sunday night to be off its face again.

Anyway @Limiescouse should not fear the skiing. Take it easy and heā€™ll be fine. I am however worried for myself. Iā€™m also going this weekend coming and Iā€™m already twitching like a kiddie after too many old fashioned Smarties. Iā€™ve got that daft head on where I think I still bounce and Iā€™ve got a hit list to achieve. No doubt pain will stump my ambition too late

Skiing - technically easier than I remember, but physically way harder. The big advantage I had compared to last time I went though was money. Skiing/boarding is a young manā€™s sport. Apres Ski requires a real job.

The one time I went skiing, it was largely subsidised by the Army. All kit and passes paid for. As for ā€˜Apres Skiā€™, we were self catering so we did beer runs to a nearby hyper-market and socialised in the block. I only managed 1.5 days of skiing. The first day I ā€˜fell overā€™ about forty times (thirty plus of them were me throwing myself over because I was going too fast. By the end of the day Iā€™d got the hang of it. Just before lunch on the second day I fell and hurt my knee. Iā€™d pulled/strained my ACL. That was me done skiing for the rest of the week. I became a glorified chalet maid who housekept throughout the day and cooked our meals. :joy::nerd_face:

Depends how you go for me. Iā€™ve seen people of all ages and physiques on the slopes including a pair of hilarious ladies that were well into their 60ā€™s. Hey never went anywhere fast or looked particularly stylish but they covered miles in a day, conveniently fueled by regular hot chocolate stops and the odd fag.

Personally I snowboard now. I see the mountain in an entirely different light with a snowboard. It becomes a play park and thereā€™s no rush to get to the bottom, moreover to find a new feature. Skiing, for me was about speed but also exploring the entire resort. Snowboarding turns the mountain into a huge skate park.

And for the record I dont really do much apres. Tried it a couple of times, fucked up the skiing next day so I decided I wasnā€™t doing that again. I will enjoy the wine at dinner etc. though. No late nights, for me it just doesnā€™t work on a ski holiday. Iā€™ve known people that have basically bought all the kit, passes etc. and decided against it the first day and spent the rest of the time on the piss. Wrong holiday. Give me a piste map, and Iā€™ll spend the day playing round and stopping a the mountain restaurants for a break here and there

Iā€™m actually considering a couple of private lessons this time. I used to take group lessons in the past and it was a great way to get a tour of the resort but also improve a little. I did get a 1 to 1 lesson once thanks to an admin error by the tour company. That was one of the best 2 hours of my life chasing this guy round. Fantastic fun.

Can you tell Iā€™m excited?

The cleaning lady didnā€™t pass this morning. She arrived this afternoon in a Maserati Ghibli. Later another arrived on foot (couldnā€™t understand a word she said) the one in the Maserati was intelligible thankfully.

Must have been the company boss in the Maserati. :astonished: Way to ,make money!

Your cleaning company is a money laundering front for the Algerian mob.

Our group of 4 beginners had one instructor. He was really relaxed and helped us all have a great time. As for the ā€œhot chocolate stopsā€ nicecwith a shot of caramel vodka in.

I was 14 and skiing at speed through a section between two runs. I was pretty good at skiing.

I hit a bump I hadnā€™t seen and my knee came up and hit my face, knocked me out cold. apparently it was a spectacular wipeout of which I remember nothing (so said the folks on the chairlift who witnessed and and had skied down to check on me, all before I was conscious). I woke up spitting out my own teeth, blood all down my face. I donā€™t remember skiing down the hill, or seeing my parents, or the drive home. just a month of dental surgeries afterwards

that was my first major concussionā€¦

Well , my kid and wife had their usual joust on saturday ( a very idiotic reason for it , One that started with my kid wanting instant maggi noodles and my wife denying it ) but that joust included a finger getting poked into my wifeā€™s eye and my wife having to get herself checked by the doctorā€¦

And then again a similar shit happens tonight and her eye gets poked againā€¦

Fuck my life. I blame both me and my wife by the way, My wife for keeping a shit rule that heā€™s only allowed to have junk food once a week and for me to even agree to itā€¦ The funny part is that the kid listens to me and everyone else in the family apart from wifey.

Times when i feel that my upbringing (and that one which allowed my dad to use some hard-degree treatment) wasnā€™t that bad , especially when you see how entitled kids are nowadays.

if Maggi noodles are considered junk food, your kid has a pretty good diet.

I used to love an indonesian product called Mi Goreng. can find them on the store shelves here more readily now but back in the day I used to have to get my driver to buy it from chinatown for me.

Mi Goreng isnā€™t junk food per se. Being a while in Singapore , I can attest that itā€™s a word for Pan Fried Noodlesā€¦

There might be some instant noodles version of the sameā€¦

But Yes , We do make it a point to restrict the kid to have junk food. If it comes to the stage that he wants a burger , Iā€™d rather make him a burger myself than order in etc etcā€¦

The entitlement bit still holds thoughā€¦Maybe itā€™s me trying to impose discipline on the child but itā€™s how iā€™ve been brought up onā€¦I can still say that Iā€™ve been more lenient on the kid though , 100x more than what my parentā€™s have been on me

Funny and intriguing history behind Mee Goreng thoughā€¦

It essentially started off as Indian Sellers trying to adopt their spices to the noodles (while being halal etc , Those guys were Muslims)ā€¦Not that difficult to make if youā€™ve got the special prawn paste that is there in Malaysia thoughā€¦

One reason why I like South east asian food so much.

my wife had never had the stuff before, just the basic ramen packs you see everywhere. (Mr Noodle is the big brand here).

But I made it for her with a friend egg and she really liked it.

They donā€™t clean very often or well so itā€™s not the cleaning business that is making money imo.

In a group of 4 is great. 10 gets awkward to get enough from the lesson I feel.

Just picking up a recipe from youtube which seemed somehow real

This is the actual oneā€¦Maybe @gasband can give more info on this.

What you are referring to is the instant noodles version of thatā€¦
