I didn’t realise yesterday…
Antony.
Not on the bench. Not injured.
Just shit.
Second most expensive player in their history, too.
Crikey.

Thanks, starting the day with a good laugh
Correct
Dan Ashworth has left his post - 5months into the job
Manchester United’s chief Dan Ashworth has walked away from Old Trafford just five months into his tenure.
The Athletic reveals that the ex-Newcastle supremo has bid farewell after a critical sit-down with summer recruit Omar Berrada. It’s been hinted at that Sir Jim Ratcliffe played a pivotal role in these developments, and the departure of Ashworth is being described as “mutual.” Despite this shake-up, both Berrada and technical director Jason Wilock maintain their positions at the club.
Was there a need for both Ashworth and Wilcox? The latter had previously worked under Berrada at City and I can’t remember how their duties were split and if Ashworth had been brought in before Berrada had been on board…?
This is so good.
Manchester United…the Frank Grimes of football.
Well, at least the most expensive was a solid hit.
I put this down as a “latest fashion” transfer.
“Look Liverpool and City have keepers that can kick a football”
“I want one too”
Wait, they’ve ditched the guy they spent months and months prizing away from Newcastle, leading to the breakdown of his relationship with Newcastle hierarchy and subsequent gardening leave that they cut short by agreeing to pay the fee that Newcastle demanded to release him from his contract? We simply don’t deserve this iterration of Man United…
There’s something Faustian about their club that I’m too scared to enjoy, by the way, even though I know that I should put an extra effort into it because it won’t last for long because of their endless pits of money and people like Berrada.
Reading the Guardian piece it sounds like Ashworth was resistant to bringing in Amorim over concerns about his preferred playing style, instead wanting to implement a consistent style and approach to long-term recruitment… only for the club to go yeah, nah, we’ll just keep tearing up the blueprint every couple of years, ta.
Have to say I think Ashworth is probably in the right on this one… I look forward to them signing a load of flying wing-backs for Amorim, only to sack him and bring in someone who plays 442 lol
They spent a lot of time beefing up a manager who won a few league titles in Portugal.
He may well come good but the publicity and the media about him were far OTT for who he is.
I know it’s Man Utd but the fawning over one result was funny it even seemed to get more coverage than us beating City in some places.
The manager does seem to understand there are teams in better places than them.
This made me laugh, from the BBC article.
In total, appointing Amorim and Ashworth and sacking Ten Hag has cost the club nearly £25m.
Also the ticket price rise…Jim is endearing himself well with his fans
I think Amorim might be a good appointment, but you’re right there is yet to be any evidence that Utd have the wherewithal to properly back him or handle any transition to his favoured system or back again should they wish or need to change managers again.
I’m left wondering if the Forest result was a new manager bounce…
Raising ticket prices is one thing, especially if the money is then spent well. But if you continually piss away money then it becomes even more hurtful to the fans having to pay the increase.
Amorim has to be first and foremost, courageous. Strip Bruno of the Captaincy. That kind of character should be nowhere a leadership role in any club.
Someone is saying the quiet part out loud again!!!
Don’t know what happened behind the scenes, but even appointing people with reputation (or some of the best in business, although it’s pretty hard to rate people who work off the pitch) right, left and centre doesn’t guarantee that they will all work well together. They’ll be back eventually (who knows when), but returning isn’t smooth sailing without more issues and more changes along the way. So it’s not really shocking news, just a reminder for (their) fans that a few (perhaps even too many?) quality-CV appointments doesn’t mean they can sleep peacefully for the next 10 years and “it will work now”.
If Ruben strips Bruno of the captaincy Portugal will strip Ruben of the citizenship.
And should be a sobering reminder to our fans that our success hasn’t been easy. We might not be an all-conquering, domineering machine, but we’ve mostly only had single-season blips once we got the system right.
It should also be a clear example to football fans in general about being billionaires’ playthings.
