And, I think it was spunking up all that cash on Antony that led to Utd’s board not following through with the signing of Gakpo, which they had looked to have had wrapped up in the summer window and were still reported as favourites to close again towards the winter window?
They paid money and a huge salary for Casemiro. The total outlay on Casemiro would probably be 82 million (including Salary and Wages). That’s more than transfer fees for Grav and Mac.
I agree that on paper, they do have more than enough players to play 3 at the back.
But not everything is about fitting a formation, it would be too easy. There’s actual football being played, quality, cohesion, level of physical capacity that is usually built in pre-season, style in phases of the game, etc.
If they would hire a new manager tomorrow who would play 4 at the back, would things radically improve? I doubt it. The one who last did got fired.
It’s just lazy talk, that 3 at the back is the main problem.
There’s work to be done and lots of damage has already happened this season.
Was looking at what are their lowest table finishes. Funny to find out that they finished 13th in our 89/90 title winning season.
If it’s about the same this season, I bloody hope it doesn’t mean also the end for us and their return back to the top…
Joking.
They’ll be back sooner or later and hopefully we remain up there also. Would love a direct battle between us two.
Line up will be interesting with no Fernandes and no Ugarte. They might really struggle in midfield, leading to a lot of the quick through balls off turnovers that Isak thrives on
Not before we’ve won about another 5 PL titles first, thanks. Still feel the sting of that 08-09 title fight and that bloody Macheda goal in the run in.
