When the shit hits the fan, and they've got the wrong man, that's Amorim!

Mainoo might want stay because it’s his club, but it wouldn’t surprise me if another English club tried to hijack him.

They’re not breaching the FFP rules, so they’re not being forced into the sale, and certainly not at ‘firesale prices’. They’re just facing limitations in how much they can spend without selling first.

There is also a question mark over whether players like Gamacho actually have a big role at a club now playing the formation favoured by their coach.

And would he have a role at a club like Napoli where Conte would play him as a wingback ?

He’s still young. He’s English. All the more reason for him to stay unless the club feels that he’s not going to get any better and has infact hit a plateau.

Both Mainoo and Garnacho are prospects who are conference league standard and probably substitutes for a Europa League level team.

They are being made out to be among the better players for the clubs because Mainoo plays alongside the geriatric Eriksen and Casemiro. And Mainoo isn’t the quickest as well. The club might not think he gets quicker too

Garnacho has Rashford (frozen out) , Antony as his competitors. It’s easy for United fans to overate because of who their team mates are

Based on what they have done with McTominay, I am thinking Ballon d’Or

But why? We dont think he is very good, but he plays. A lot. That means the others who are not being sold are less valuable to united as players. This is at best a statement of United being backed into a sell to buy position and are unable to sell their actual cast offs so are having to sell players who are actually getting minutes

Alternatively, he could look at Rashford’s career arc, and think - I need to get out of here, go somewhere and actually develop. About 6-7 years ago, Rashford was Mainoo

Wasn’t there another one in between the two of them?

Oh wait, we don’t talk about that one…

That particular someone is topping the scoring charts in that league.

Was always clear that he was the best youth recruit in the United system

How did I miss this?

Yes, i agree to some extent but there has been a lot of talk in recent months about the player wanting out and I’m not sure his club have a particularly long list of players they are not open to selling for the right price, particularly if an incoming player is expectiing to be regular starter. ( i admit i dont know who they are linked with signing).

Obviously a new signing is the missing link to this making sense. They aren’t really linked to anyone though and Utd dont exactly have history of moving quietly in these matters.

Maybe the answer is this LB from Lecce they’ve been linked to, which will allow Amad to be exclusively a forward.

I think Garnacho is very talented but I wonder if his impending sale is more about trying to correct the attitude in the dressing room rather than just about his undoubted talent on the field.

I’ve been critical of Man Utd hanging on to bad attitudes for too long. Garnacho certainly looks like a prick, not that I know he is, but maybe Amorim thinks he’s not got the right mentality.

To be fair they all come across as pricks. In fact he is one I would suggest seemed less of a prick.

He was disciplined fairly early on along with Rashford for some unstated things, but given his immediate return to the side it seemed like something that was quashed. It would be such a United move to end up moving him and Anthony on this winter, failing to land a replacement and having to turn back to Rashford…who then goes on a mini run of form before getting another contract extension and disappearing for another 18 months after that

Anyone who thought the “worst Utd side in history” comment was some cannily calibrated comment to get a certain response is likely going to have to reconsider that due to this

You dont immediately back track from inflammatory comments if they were calculated

Yet another sign that he is really uncertain now, and finding himself in over his head. He probably meant what he said, and was expressing frustration - but there is no margin for that.

And now has explained himself by saying he is young and will make mistakes, which is why he doesnt like speaking to the press after the game.

Blood in the water

Seems about as well planned as Liz Truss 4D chess moves.
