He’s probably there to take the stick from the fans and get a move on in terms of government clearances/funding etc for the stadium.
There’s absolutely no way that the UK government should countenance spending money for a stadium for a club when they’ve given another club in the same city a stadium. But Ratcliffe didn’t get to where he is without knowing the persons in power.
If I was a Utd fan my blood would be running cold at the Ineos comments in response to this. They signed a contract. They had a legal commitment to pay the NZRU and as soon as they found themselves in a less strong financial position tried to reneg on the deal they freely made. They are now crticizing the NZRU for not working to come to a “managed settlement.” Bitch, the only offer I’ll accept is the amount you agreed to pay us.
Banter aside, the comparison to what FSG accomplished in the first few years of owning LFC to what is happening at ManU is quite striking. I simply don’t recall anything like the petty cost-cutting as the finances were turned around. FSG came in with a clear capital plan, not necessarily to the satisfaction of every fan, but deployed the capital needed to cover a difficult transition without the sort of performative silliness seen at ManU.
The first (and primary) area FSG looked at was player contracts, and just getting us to a position ASAP where the players we had were worth what we were paying them (so guys like Joe Cole had to go)… you could argue that’s the one area the Glazers and INEOS seem to be ignoring completely in favour of penny-pinching everywhere else
I think the penny may have dropped there somewhat. See how eager they have been to move Antony and Rashford on this window (albeit on loan). Might also play into their decision over letting Garnacho leave if they get a good offer.
