The eyebrow-raiser in that is the date of the club’s first formal contact with Juventus. They have evidently been talking to journalists for 2-3 weeks, but really only just started work on the transfer for a few days. That absolutely reeks of people within an organization trying to avoid blame.

The boos at half time last week were telling. It is really important to appreciate that this summer was a clean slate not just in terms of the new manager, but in terms of the new backroom team being in effect. Woodward, the guy who so much of the recent dysfunction can be blamed on had gone. He left early enough that the new team had their feet under them in time to do the work they needed to do this summer. We are seeing evidence they did a terrible job and within 45 minutes all the patience and willingness to trust in the new team had been exhausted already. If this goes wrong, as it looks like doing, fixing it is again far more than just about replacing Ten Hag.

Stories this week that Utd were turning to Sarr at Watford, but news breaking today that Forrest have signed Dennis. I think it’s difficult to see Watford, one of the favourites for promotion, being willing to sell 2 such important players in their attack this late in the window.
