The Chelsea experiment has shown its limitations. It has often presented as an issue of bringing too many new players together at one time. But it is just as much an issue of the profile of the players. This actually is the real world example of Hansen’s “you cant win anything with kids” because what this side is lacking is the leadership and experience of a Bruce, Keane etc who those young players supplemented. The only leadership and experience Chelsea have is James who is never available, and Fernandez who is a massive cunt. Utd would be replicating it but with lesser players. It is a midtable at best strategy. But maybe still their best path forward from where they are

They would have been in a better position for this strategy five years ago. Now all of their veterans are part of the problem.

Yeah, worth bearing in mind that Atalanta brought him in as a back-up to develop behind Zapata, and he wasn’t starting regularly until January due to Zapata’s injury difficulties. A couple of months later, ManU offered them more than a transfer window worth of outgoing fees

The Reds got 90k to the G in 2013, not exactly a golden era. It’s horribly trite, but it simply does mean more for some clubs.
The joint was rocking, full of young and old supporters, so many old shirts from the 80s on display.
Sure, the fanbase grew during a period of outstanding success, but it stuck fat during the lean years, no doubt about that in my mind.

This is the heart of it. Fine-tuning gradualist approaches won’t work to clear out an entitled mentality of overpaid underachievers. Any veteran going there will be going for the disproportionate payoff. The ones with the drive to resist that culture will swerve it, it will only be the ones who think they can and then become embittered that will go and end up contributing to it.
