What order is it in as it isn’t in alphabetical order of the selling or buying club or even the player’s name?
Wow, well isn’t that fantastic.
Now go find the list of transfers that actually matter for 2022 which aren’t filtered out and we’ll see how many times we find ourselves in the top 20.
Why don’t you do it as you seem all huffy?
How much did Nuñez cost? £60 million? I still think we’ll be in the top 10.
I don’t need to, it’s been done a thousands times over.
Every man and his dog knows where we rank on the list of club spendings in the past 12 months, 5 years, 10 years etc.
According to your comments it really doesn’t seem like you do? You don’t seem to think we’d hit top 20 for most expensive transfers in 2022.
Arsenal and Chelsea are doing the business while we are still waiting for, yes for whom …
Well Brighton have rejected it.
£60,000,001.00 bid incoming…
Makes absolutely zero sense for Brighton to sell now. They could get European football, and Caicedo will still be in demand in the summer.
Surprised at Arsenal. Putting in bids that you don’t know are going to be accepted seems a bit amateur. Do think this is Football Manager?
Yup, Brighton would have to have a bid that blows them out of the water.
They can easily get this in the summer.
Makes zero sense from a footballing perspective maybe, it’s a business for these owners…and as we know money talks. Everybody knows if Arsenal, Chelsea or anyone else with that kind of spending power puts up the money he’s a goner.
Them getting 80-100m for him is better financially than them getting into Europe.
I don’t agree. If they are looking to kick on, and attract the players the next rung up, they need Europe.
Maybe they are being run by some TAN poster
I think Arsenal would feel they may face more competition for him in the summer or that getting him now allow him and the wider squad to settle in sooner. If he is the right player I can’t see any harm in that. It probably looks worse than it is because they seem to be slinging in bids for players this window in a rather haphazard looking way.
It is frustrating to watch other teams recruit, while we seem too conservative in comparison. I know we signed Gakpo, and he will be a versatile and useful forward for us. But it’s the midfield, innit?!
Most reds would say we need two midfielders. Some would go further, but let’s be realistic and limit it to two. The engine room is getting overrun each week. Whatever our older players have left in the tank is not helping us enough, because the balance is all wrong. And whatever our younger players might go on to achieve is also struggling to come through just yet, because they are being introduced to a struggling team.
There is still a lot to play for this season, as we could get top four and we have pedigree in the CL, even if Real Madrid is a tough draw.
Signing one of the two midfielders now, rather than summer, would seem the way to go. Let’s say Bellingham is the one, and we wait. I get that. He is a special player. But I’m not willing to say that the second midfielder we want is so unique that it is him, and him alone. For example, if not Caicedo, then move on and make a move for Kone. Etc.
Anyway, I don’t want to be a whinger about the team, and I will always support the reds, but it feels like we are missing an opportunity to put some petrol in the tank to have a run at the rest of the season.
It leaves me to conclude that we are now in a holding pattern with FSG, as they wait to sell. If there’s a minor deal to be had - loan, freebie, or some unexpected opportunity - we might still get a midfielder before the window closes, but I want to see us making a move and getting on with our rebuilding plans.
Yup when the club went up for sale or for external investment or whatever it was I kind of felt this is where we were heading this window.
Surprised we bought Gakpo itself to be honest.
Brighton are already a very rich club and financially self-sufficient. Their stadium is still fairly new, training facilities are exceptional - what more do they need?
There is a logic to what you say but I bemoan the lack of romance in the modern game. Playing in Europe and taking their fans on a tour of the continent should be worth far more than a bit of cash. After all, what do they need the cash for except to buy players who can maybe qualify them for Europe?
It’s not only romance, of course every club (okay not every out there, but a Brighton this season, why not) strives to get to European football, it’s just logic.
It’s a pipe dream though. One the odd occasion, like this year, they might over perform to the degree they are challenging for a spot, but they shouldn’t ignore their business (and competitive) model for the sake of chasing that.
let them dream.
