The BBC piece on this says he communicated his intention to leave to the Newcastle hierarchy two weeks ago.
Seems like he recognised that he had done all that he could and perhaps didn’t have the energy to start the rebuild Newcastle need after losing all of their best players.

This was the argument players like isak and Bruno were signed with - PSR meant the team Newcastle were putting together would have to broken up. The bet they were told to make was come to Newcastle and aim on being the guy who plays well enough that they are the guy who brings in the huge fee Newcastle could use to cover their losses and reinvest into the team starting the next phase. But for one reason or another Newcastle never accepted their medicine

I wonder if Jason Tindall was consulted by Eddie Howe when he decided to step down? He seems to be joined at the hip, pegging his fortunes in the game to Howe.
Sometimes that’s what it’s like, a two for one combo. Other times, it runs its course and the number two is jettisoned to go and do their own thing.
I wonder what will happen to Tindall. Since there’s some history there with us, and he has shown himself to be a nasty piece of work, I hope he lands on his arse.

I mentioned repeatedly at the time that it was bizarre how little consideration Isak’s claims for why he wanted to leave were getting in the coverage of the stand off. The project that was promised when signing him, with this vast amount of off the pitch progress, had completely stalled. He had done his bit and they had reneged on theirs. Letting him go was not only fair, but their best path to raising the money that could help get some portion of that project back on track. It was incredibly strange that the only person I saw reference this dynamic was the Newcastle correspondent at the Athletic.
EDIT: weird the headline isnt coming through like it normally does, but it’s a piece about how PIF have publicly acknowledged a couple of years ago a new strategy of pivoting away from international investment with the effect on Newcastle being their project and their off field progress is way off track compared to the promises they made when buying it.
