The “project” really has come apart. This was the under current of the Isak saga last summer that so few people covering it ever even touched on. So many of the things they promised when they first came, especially things they promised to the players, have just not happened. Now that generation of players they over spent (in terms of FFP) on and to whom they made those promises have either left or want out.

Yep. They all expected another Man City, but financial regulations are different now and that was not going to happen. Still, they could have been ‘up there’ in the CL spots, with infrastructure rebuilt into world class facilities, and the club being really well run at all levels.
They do not look capable of doing that, and/or the owners have lost some interest, so it looks like Newcastle will be having a bit of a reset in terms of expectations.
I wonder if that Newcastle journalist is still adament that Guimaraes is going nowhere…
Seems to me that Howe would only walk away because of the transfer situation.

Yup…Their only promising signing this season is Toure, a 20 year old left footed left winger who is meant to replace Gordon.
They signed Aladji Bamba to replace Sandro Tonali. Bamba only had 815 minutes on the field last season in Ligue 1.
They signed Sean Steur who had 1135 minutes in 19 matches in the Eriedivisie. He is supposedly the replacement for Bruno who is aching to leave lol…
They are finding it really hard to recruit top class players with their existing top class players leaving.
Those geordies who were celebrating NUFC making it tough for us to sign Isak last season should realise by now NUFC has well and truly fucked up its own reputation.

Isnt it also possible that he has been sacked but the club didnt want to look like they’ve made a snap decision part way through pre-season, so made it out hes chosen to leave in an attempt to not look incompetent.
I mean it’s possible, but the chatter I’m hearing makes it sound like they were trying to convince him to stay.

One of the worse time to sack a manager is to sack him in the middle of pre-season.
…It could well be that someone there has realised that Howe will never get them into a consistently winning outfit. He has been there almost 5years, and to me, they look like relegation cannon fodder this season..
Surely that depends on the manager - no one is going to be able to convince me that there was ever a bad time to sack Roy Hodgson for instance

You have to develop bit by bit, the way Isak was treated serves as a taster of what other players may be up against if the decide to leave to further their careers.
Newcastle aren’t an end destination they are a stepping stone and players atm need that reassurance that they won’t be pariahs if they leave.
