Not been much chat about about Isak, but if we are going to get anything out of this season it largely comes down to this lads fitness, form and whether or not the manager can get the team playing to his strengths.

A general question - can you play a formation that works without a stiker and say 3 winger type players?
If you had to choose a Swede (feels like an old Shooting Stars bit), would you rather Elanga or Isak?

It’s not really one match. He’s a soft lad, always has been, and I’ve said it from the beginning. I just don’t see this boy taking care of business.
What’s the point of him?
Even knowing, my heart sinks when I see Isak’s name.

It wouldn’t be the guy that got 1 goal contribution in the league the whole of last season that’s for sure, don’t care how quick the guy is.
He got horrendous service but I am a bit worried about him.
As with Wirtz, the team isn´t doing anything to play to his strengths but when he does have the ball he has to be better and look like a 100 mil plus player.

The main reason why I think he will flop hard is because I can’t remember the last time a big money signing had such a bad first season and made a complete turnaround of his fortunes. Also, our track record of buying pure no. 9 has been horrendous since signing Torres, you’d think someone put a hex there. I will obviously give him the benefit of the doubt but solely because the change of the manager. He looks soft and lost - but that’s criticism that can be applied to many of his teammates at the moment.

Suarez? He’s a bit of a 9 + 10. I know you’re thinking of Carroll, Benteke, Balotelli.
We haven’t really played with 9’s for some time so I didn’t understand the mad dash for Isak. Even Ekitike isn’t a pure 9, he can be very effective in the wings and deeper into midfield.
Remember just recently in the world cup he got the ball deep and had two defenders in front of him with space in behind? He absolutely bamboozled them and scored.
Where is that Isak? He seems scared to express himself as a Red.

Could be the case. Do you think he looks overhwhelmed yesterday by the occasion and the reception their fans gave him?
A lot of knee-jerking going on based on one singular match in which the whole team struggled. He got scraps to work with for the entire game, and he had to reach the midfield area to get himself involved.
He wasn’t good, but he was no worse than anyone else.

This is where personality and mental make-up is important. That’s equally, if not more important than footballing and athletic ability.
That’s what allows a player to apply their skills no matter the hostile environment.
It’s why it’s rightly highlighted that just because a player doesn’t at a small club doesn’t necessarily mean he can do it at a big one.
Look at the attacking players we got during the Klopp era. None of them were shrinking violets. They all had fire in their bellies, and a steely determination.
I don’t know if Isak has that. I have the same questions about Wirtz.

I have the same concern on Wirtz. He looks a shell of his former self (as does Isak) and he has lost that swagger he had when he came, even.
For a period of a few months he looked confident and he was looking good and then he went back to just playing it easy and not trying anything.
As you say, it´s about having that mentality. Courage and desire to make something happen, regardless of the pressure or environment.

Absolutely. Once those first couple of tackles went in and he got nothing from the ref he visibly shrank. At least it’s out of the way now and he can concentrate on doing what he’s capable of.

Both Salah and Mané got kicked from pillar to post. That just made them even more determined to hurt the opposition by scoring/assisting. And if anything they probably got less foul calls than anybody else.
Mo built a body like a tank so that none of the physical stuff could deter him.
It’s just a gut feeling more than anything else, but that gut feeling is based upon what I’ve witnessed from him to date in a red shirt… I don’t feel this guy is capable of producing the goods.!
For anyone coming on and saying the guy hasn’t had a proper chance yet, well my answer would be, take yourself back to Jayden Danns getting given a chance by Jurgen… The kid was bursting with pride, enthusiasm, athleticism, willingness and everything else you could wish for from a guy that wants to play for LFC… From Isaac, I’ve seen nothing of note that he even enjoys his football, never mind bustling his way to the a Golden Boot award for highest scorer… and as for him being intimidated by the Sandcastle fans yesterday, he is playing for LFC now, fuck the rest…
