Alisson BECKER: 2024/25

And for all talk , we really don’t concede much from setpieces and corners.

We can have the likes of VVD and Konate to thank for that. Along with Grav , Gomez and Quansah.

A lot of that down is to modern gloves they are like having a memory foam mattress strapped to your hands.

We don’t really conceded much in general contrary to what certain posters say.

…there is also the mindset of the opposing defenders. If they know Alisson is going to punch the ball away, they will be fearful of being caught flat-footed against our speed merchants.
When he catches it, they can shuffle into a defensive reset.

Ali, is the best at catching crosses but since he came back from injury, for some reason he started punching them when in the past he would have caught them.

In fact he would often catch it and immediately hoof it up to Salah speeding up the wing. He has a couple of assists that way. Maybe it’s tactical?

Didn’t look it the way Virgil give him the rounds.

One of the all time great individual performances in a Liverpool shirt.

One of my favourite Alisson anecdotes is the reaction of the team when they’d met him for the first time. He walked into the room at Hotel Royal in Evian-les-Bains and - as the account went from someone present - “there were gasps, a lot of ‘f*****g hell,’ and ‘he’s bigger than I imagined’ with another adding ‘and handsomer’ :joy:

Alisson is a rarity in prompting so much awe, yet remaining among the game’s most grounded and understated players. At Internacional, they called him ‘Iceman.’ Jürgen Klopp used ‘lifesaver’ a few times. Corriere dello Sport termed that save against Napoli ‘miracolo.’

He’s one of the best goalkeepers in history, but when I asked him how he feels about that description, Alisson naturally downplayed it: “I came to Liverpool in the right moment, when the team were already in the middle of the right way. I got a good seat and have enjoyed the view.”

Great quote. Simultaneously down plays his importance, talks up the quality of our football and conveys an inner confidence (‘a good seat’ FFS!) that our defenders must love.

I’ve always noticed England goalkeepers (e.g. Hart and Pickford) seem so manic before games, getting themselves and others psyched up, and thought that’s the exact opposite of what you want in a goalkeeper.

Ali’s natural calmness just exudes from him to the rest of the team.

Ali facing a greeting line after the game like he’s a groom at a wedding.

Queve: “wow wow wow wow”

Good seat?
It’s the best on the pitch, with a great view too.
Even the most viewing time of the match amongst all the feet across the pitch since he generally got the least to do.

I don’t think anything can ever be calmer to me than Kelleher napping during a game.

Redmen TV, John Machin hits the nail on head with Ali, he never has had to make as many saves for us but the biggest thing was the variety of saves he made.

THE COMPLETE GOALKEEPER

I am still blown away by the cross shot that he parried so far it cleared our box. I am honestly not sure I’ve ever seen something like that before.
