I’ve never seen it as openly happening as it does in Dublin.
At times yes, stay on the good side of Dame Street and you’d hardly notice much.Move across to Temple bar, Westmoreland street and across the Liffey and you’ll become more aware the further you go.
Northside of Dublin has been largely neglected compared to the Southside for many years now. In the City it becomes more noticeable because it’s not really your area so you pay attention to what’s going on around you as you don’t maybe feel the safety net of where you are from, your community.
I’ve grown up between both town and a well known suburb a few miles away. Both with much the same problems. Every city has these problems, we just don’t tend to spend time in those areas when we go as tourist.
I’m not a tourist. Working in Dublin around 20 years. Also from a suburb about 35 minutes away. Have seen the city centre being neglected and we are now living with the consequences.
I would suggest that in most cities, if you spend enough time in them that you will notice pretty much the same activities, depending on where in that city you go.
There’s been a lot of talk about O Connell Street recently, trying to make it nicer/better/safer as it’s our main Street. It’s already a nice street, it can be made better by attracting different shops/businesses than the fast food places, but that will only happen if we make it safer first. What it needs is more garda on the street. Start there and work your way down towards Talbot Street and Connelly station, taking in the other side streets. Start with that and it won’t be long in changing.
Dublin City Centre is a shithole. Born and raised in Dublin and I avoid “Town” at all costs.
To those visiting our shores, avoid the centre of Dublin, it’s unpleasant at best.
It’s not America, restaurant staff earn a good wage in comparison to other countries… Just round up €46, give €50.
If you get exceptionally good service, leave €10.
Thank you guys.
Currently, on the Elizabeth line, next stop Terminal 5 .
Got an email saying, BA flight maybe delayed .
I have booked city centre now. This is just a first time trip. This is why we booked. We will walk lots. Next time we may book countryside.
Now at Boarding gate.
I was stopped at security. They say that there was something that needed further scanning. My colgate toothpaste tube looked suspicious.
The Hurling final is on in Croke Park today. I’ve just been down at Croker and the way into town is jammers and will take a while to get there.
You are right. We are on the Dublin Express coach to the city centre, O’Conall bridge and it was late coming in.
Omg! It is heaving. We have been surrounded by Corkonian fans outnumbering the Tipperrary fans.
Every pub is chocka block.
We got on Dublin Express instead of Aircoach, which was a good 12 minute walk.
Now relaxing and having Irish scones and a cuppa outside in Castle Tearoom. Watching the world go by.
Edited: it is now kinda quiet now.
It’s a long way to Tipperary
Sadly I agree, our capital city isn’t what it once was or what it should / has the potential to be.
I got talking to some of the fans. The Cork fan said, this is our version of ‘The Superbowl’.
We are watching the Hurling match in our hotel room. With a cuppa.
This match reminds abit of Lacrosse sport.
Do not say that out loud in Ireland!
Today is the Hurling final, next week is the Donegal v Kerry Gaelic football final.
I can’t imagine many here being upset at the comparison. It’s the one we always hear
Yes, i just found out. The young lad who works in the hotel, don’t say that loud to a ‘hurling person’. He supports Meath.
He was fixing our plug in the room.
Omg! Tipperrary winning against Cork.
Edit: we are getting good tips from the youngsters on the ‘does and don’ts’ in Dublin.
We are really getting into this Hurling. It is very watchable and exciting match.
