Scotland had confirmed play-off spot earlier. However, that win last night now ensures that they play at home in their play-off semi-final.
It wasnāt a dead rubber. The play off system is a mess and this win was theoretically the difference between being seeded or not and getting to play at home vs away.
Yeah considering there are teams like Italy floating around every advantage possible may count!
My apologies. I didnāt realise/care that the win was needed.
Still annoying that he is potentially out during a busy period
The whole play-off system is fucking nonsense, especially at a time like this. If they werenāt corrupt, money-obsessed twats then theyād have implemented a system where the 2nd placed teams with the best record would have qualified.
The Robbo injury has got me pissed off at him tbh. At what point does a chunk of the blame lie with the player? Robbo has been fucked for some time, itās clear to see. Mentally as well as physically I reckon. His performance at West Ham with his tired, predictable crossing was evidence of this.
Heās a pro footballer who has spent his entire life maintaining fitness, he knows his body and heāll know better than anyone that right now that he canāt perform to the desired level every 3-4 days which is what heās being asked to do. Is it too much to ask that he tells his international manager he should only do 55-60 minutes? That heās in no shape to do another 90 minutes? He becomes a liability. Itās not like heās going to be bombed out of the squad, heās their best fucking player.
And so the inevitable hamstring injury. And his club, the one that pays his wages, are left carrying the cost. He should look at his mate James Milner and learn a lesson because thatās him going forward but at a much younger age, picking up one hamstring after another through being run into the ground.
Great opportunity for Tsimikas though. Never thought Iād be saying this 6 months ago but if Tsimikas performs like he has been doing in Robboās absence then the shirtās his until injury or poor form dictateās. There is a smaller drop-off in our cover at LB than anywhere else on the pitch apart maybe from CB.
Maybe Iām spouting shite out of frustration but this club cannot afford these situations to continue and the Robbo injury has brought it to a head. Henderson is in the same boat, itās clear he canāt do whatās being asked of him without breaking down. And for what? To sit on a fucking bench for a month in Qatar?
I think the situation is going to come to a head pretty soon. Players are starting to speak up about the number of games.
The biggest problem is that the gameās regulators are also the ones with a financial stake in more and more games, and asking players to go to the well every three days.
No-one will compromise - FIFA, UEFA, The Premier League, The FA, The Football League - they all have their snouts in the trough and only concerned with how they can wrong more money out of their involvement.
Oh, and Hendo needs to retire from International football. Itās ridiculous the way England treat him.
āAs flies to wanton boysā¦ā
Jurgen Klopp on Andy Robertson:
āHe hurt his muscle ā we cannot take any risks. We heard back from the rehab guys today, it was his first pain-free day today so we will see how he reacts so I donāt know.ā
No problem, he got another week to heal.
What a guy, used his game last night off the bench like if it was his Liverpool debut and he had a starter ahead of him (like it was the case). Fantastic now that we can give him a little break when heās slight alarming shape. Hopefully prolongs his career at the top level.
Nat is mad that he didnāt get a game.
Robbo looked sharp and hungry last night. Looks like he needed a bit of rest, and having Kostas available has allowed that to happen. Hereās hoping that last nights cameo is the start of a solid run of form.
Andrew Robertson vs. Southampton
85% Pass accuracy
2/6 Accurate long passes
2/4 Crosses completed
4 Chances created
2 Big chances created
1 Assist
1 Interception
7 Recoveries
Not bad for an out of form should be replaced player!
I really hope we can keep both our left backs happy because itās a fantastic situation for the club at the moment.
Heās had a great game. Iād still start Tsimikas the following game considering that Robboās been playing almost continuously for a large amount of time for both club and country.
Wouldnāt surprise me if we see a few changes for that game I donāt expect both Mane and Salah to start for example.
Itās the derby in midweek. The only change Iām expecting is Joel coming in for Konate.
I know but he switched about a few years back it would not surprise me, those he brought off will start, I think he rested Salah and Firmino that night if I remember
