THIS!!! (10 f*cking characters )
Yes there is a lot of waste ground there now. At one point there was talk of a hotel complex being built. Donāt know what the current plans are, if any. Anyway, Iām not sure how straightforward it is to buy and then demolish a church.
Planning and construction is well beyond my area of expertise. All I do know is that in all the reading Iāve done on this people who clearly know what they are talking about have suggested re-routing WBR is either very expensive or canāt happen for various reasons so I donāt expect Kop expansion to be happening any time soon.

Isnāt the only purchase needed to get the land behind the Kop the church and a pub? You demolish those and you have the room to re-route the A road.
Donāt forget the āPieā shop on the cornerā¦!!
Creating the necessary space is probably the least of our problems when it comes to diverting Walton Breck Road.
First you will have to set about obtaining planning permission.
Then you either submit your valid planning application, or full planning permission to the Secretary of State for Transport.
Assuming he is satisfied that the proposed stopping up / diversion is justified, all thatās required then is to successfully navigate the following procedures/processes:
Simples.
Did we have go through this process for The Main Stand and the ARE extensions?
Tbf though, rerouting WBR has long been contemplated to the extent that there are already design proposals from about ten years ago where a large pedestrianised area was going to be created behind the Kop.
Iāve only been lucky enough to enjoy corporate hospitality once (Puma box at the Emirates) but as I understand it, if the boxes serve alcohol, even if they have a pitch view from the box, they have to obscure this during the game anyway as youāre not allowed alcohol in view of the game.
No we didnāt as neither development required stopping up / diverting an āAā road.
You are right, there were plans to regenerate the area and to make Walton Breck Road more pedestrian friendly:
The Anfield regeneration scheme was announced in 2013 as a joint venture between Liverpool City Council, Your Housing Group and Liverpool Football Club.
However, the intention was not to stop up or divert Walton Breck Road, but to narrow it.
The proposals for Walton Breck Road in north Liverpool form the latest phase of a Ā£260m regeneration of the area.
If approved, derelict buildings would be demolished or rebuilt and the road would be narrowed to make the area more pedestrian friendly.
What are those cloth/paper thingies with the sign-legs? Sandbags, so the signs wont trip over in wind?
Exactly so, it gets pretty windy up there.
Re the WBR plans:

You can see that these plans would not only make more space behind the Kop, allowing for the stand to be expandedā¦
But also you can see from the above that if the ARE expansion is built so that the bottom of the stand is slightly further back than it is currently, the pitch could be shifted N/NE allowing even more footprint to an enlarged Kop.
There would still be insufficient space for a significant increase in capacity. Given that every 1000 extra seats on the Kop will add five rows, requiring the back of the stand āmoveā a minimum of 3.5 metres towards Walton Breck road, it might be possible to squeeze in an addition 1500 seats before encroaching on the (proposed) narrowed road, but that would be all. And an additional 1500 seats would hardly justify all the expense and inconvenience incurred.
The extra space in front of the expanded ARE stand is earmarked to provide increased space for disabled access / wheelchairs, not to allow the pitch to be moved to accommodate an enlarged Kop.
Besides which āmovingā the Kop sufficiently N/NE to create space for a significant increase in capacity would soon impinge upon the seating on Main stand and the SKD stand, effectively robbing Peter to pay Paul.
The only realistic way to increase the capacity of the Kop would be to build what would be in effect a new stand, out towards Walton Breck Road, requiring that either the road is diverted or that the stand ābridgesā the road.
Either way, it wonāt be cheap.
Yes, except if the external side of the Kop stand reflected a similar pitch as the stand itself, so that it extended beyond the curtilage of WBR only at least half way up.

WBR_|___\KOP
Apart from obtaining the necessary consents / flying freehold(?) to implement such a structure, the main obstacle to your suggestion would be that increasing capacity by say 4000, would require an additional overhang of about 14 metres, which would be one hell of a cantilever! I doubt the existing structures could come close to safely supporting the load.
Then there is the question of how you could provide safe access/exit points, mezzanine floors and stairways for the 20 new rows of seats? I doubt that rope ladders down to street level would suffice.
It would probably be easier to have WBR asa tunnel through the kop.
Not sure of the logistics but would seem the easier option.
Personally I donāt think it can / will happen but you can dream

Yes, Iāve said something similar before. Basically like the Holte End at Villa Park.
Apologies, itās the Trinity Road standā¦
The old Vincente CalderĆ³n had a motorway go under itā¦
As does the Parc des Princes (PSG)
Iām not really that bothered about us not being able to host a European final.
Imagine Real v Juve at Anfield for the champions league final - doesnāt bother me in the slightest.

100%
I would want us playing in the final rather than hosting it.
