Anfield and Kirkby

I want to do it again but with a famous ex LFC legend guide.

Also did it twice, in 2015 and 2019. Will do it again once the upgraded Annie Road stand is included in the tour. If that’s even the plan…

Ironically went a month before Covid shut the crowds out so all my photos of a stadium on a Friday felt as empty as they would look on match days.

Anyhow I enjoyed it.

I dont really know where to put this so going here. Athletic has a new piece about the return of the current popular chat - Liverbird on my chest

Until I read this I had no idea at all this was supposed to be based on the melody of the Ballet of the Green Beret (the lads could do with some tuning)

That really made me smile because back when I was a kid Craig Johnston wrote a different song that was based on the same song

That Liverbird upon their chest
Liverpool, the world’s best
This great team, trusted and tried
They’re the pride of Merseyside

The Angels came, took Shanks away
And from above we heard him say
Give me men whose hearts have bled
Make them proud to wear the red

Well we did the stadium tour yesterday. Well worth the visit, although it is incredible how much it has changed since I went in the 1980s.

I’m not quite sure what happened with that picture. I was wearing a Sherpa jacket as it was very windy, but my legs are usually much longer than that.

That’s great.

How was it in the 80’s? Love to hear how were certain things in the past.

And does someone know when did the Anfield tour even start?

Aww, what a lovely picture. I couldn’t even reach the Anfield sign. I had to jump like three times to touch it!

The ground and stadium has changed. The new stadium stand is fabulous.

I’m not. If I had realised it was on this weekend, I would have got tickets, but I had already made other plans.

I am personally dead against all posters whose avatar is not actually them.

As an aside, we streaked the quad last night…

Much smaller! Also quite cramped. I think people do remember the old days with rose tinted glasses. The seats in the stadium were wooden and not particularly comfortable. Some seats, particularly the Kemlyn road, had next to no leg room, and some of the view of the pitch was obscured by pillars.

The Kop was fun, but you would often get bruises during goal celebrations and there was no way of getting to the toilets during the game. Generally, it stank of piss, and if you were unlucky, so would you at the end of the game.

I think what struck me yesterday is just how big it is now. Also, there is much more space around the stands. Originally, it did back up on houses.

Or vomit. I had a bloke throw up down my back once.

That is one reason why it was best to never wear a coat with a hood… another reason was, I once saw someone put some paper in the hood of a coat some guy was wearing… then set it alight - for a laugh…!
Being crammed in, he couldn’t just whip his coat off either

Just the things you do when you’re in a “FFS, Darwin!” state of mind.

:joy:

Given how busy it gets on match days, no bad thing…but cba’d to delve into the detail of what is being proposed.
