Arne Slot - Former Head Coach (Part 2)

I think so too, otherwise why throw his name in the ring there.

would a move to bayer not be the same as moving to palace though??

He seems to be quite new to the business, since his account is only four weeks old.

When he means next season he means next next season.

I thought that, only 330-odd followers, but one of the earlier tweets mention that they don’t normal use X.

I’ve had a quick look and it appears to be an anonymous clickbait account. There doesn’t appear to be a real journalist of that name.

I ran his first post through DeepL:

I don’t usually use X, but I just wanted to let you know that I’ve heard some news about Arne Slot. Arne Slot is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

It could just be wishful thinking on my partšŸ˜‚

This account was presumably created specifically for frustrated people like you. At the very least, the name is well-stolen.

I really think if he was going to be sacked it would have happened by now. The decision would have been weeks or even months in the making so they would have acted as soon as the season ended. Even if the personal terms of his departure need finalising, that can be done behind the scenes.
I fear here’s staying and I’ve been afraid of it for months now. Honestly hope I’m wrong because him staying will set us back even further.

I think they are relying on wishful thinking from lots of us!

This seems plausible, with the added caveat that maybe a decision was made very late in the day, and now the focus is on signing up a successor before announcing Slot’s departure?

I suppose it will all be clear enough very soon.

I think if he was departing the club would do it regardless of having finalised the next man. Obviously they’d need to know that some suitable candidates are available. Which they seem to be, well at least 1.
I have felt all along that he’s staying but maybe just maybe they are waiting to get positive signals from the next man and that’s the only reason he hasn’t been told he’s out? Clutching at straws a bit though.

I hear you. On the balance of probability he’s staying, but I’m just holding out on that for a minute. Toward the end of the season we were getting more and more informal voices saying he would be staying on. But then right towards the end there were a few voices saying that it is not fully settled.

None of us will ever know fully what is going on, but my take is we are a club divided behind the scenes over Slot, and an end of season review needs to bring it to conclusion one way or another.

The timing of that would likely be this week, and taking the Bank Holiday into account, we are now very much at the time where if something is going to happen it should be imminent.

I read somewhere that Iraola went back home to Spain for a few days, and he will have offers coming in. AC Milan, Palace, Leverkusen … but the one he really wants is Liverpool, so if an offer is forthcoming, I would have thought it will be quick.

I could be completely barking top the wrong tree!

sounds like an issue at a club that dominates possession. and we do, at anfield, no matter who the coach is.

On the counter side Bournemouth looked pretty damn good defensively the other day against Man City. Firing into challenges and pressing high all over the field and completely taking City out of the game. Haaland scored that last second underrated banger but little ol’ Bournemouth had completely shut them out before that.

If Bournemouth can do that why can’t our players?

It’s technical death metal! (One of the pioneers of which are Liverpool’s own…the mighty Carcass!!)
