Fair enough. It is the right decision, and we sorely needed a reset. So there is a sense of relief and also a sense of hope and anticipation about the new man and the new season. Thatās all good, and thereās no problem with any of that.
The only problem I have (and I can understand it) is when some of our fans look like they are dancing on his grave, and calling him a bald fraud and whatnot. It seems small, and lacking class.
Salah has previously pressed. Gakpo has previously pressed. Ekitike can press, so can Isak. The midfield has previously pressed better than last season. All four of our fullbacks can press.
If none of them are pressing well itās because thatās how theyāve been told to play or arenāt physically conditioned enough to do it consistently.
I was just surfing X and I realised that there are no new leaks of any kind. Even the semi-legit engagment baiting Indykaila suddenly stopped the engagement of Slotās fate. The same goes for Romano.
Coupled that of Iraolaās plea to come and get him, it all had the makings of something shockingā¦
Yeah. The scouting report on the 3 new forwards prior to joining us was that all 3 were a good fit for a pressing side. Isak was identified as lower volume than the other two in his running but very intelligent in how he did it making him more efficient than furious, whereas the other two were both labeled as elite in that part of the game.
Personally I think itās a sad day when a Liverpool manager loses their job. But it needed to happen.
Iām not celebrating it.
I canāt shake the feeling thereās a been a bit of panic in this. Sticking to their guns that they can sort it at the end of season and their would be a wealth of replacement choices. Alonso went and as soon as there were noises of Iraola speaking to other clubs, we move. Many will argue it should have happened earlier. Itās difficult not to agree with them.
Then again Iāve been flat on my back for 2 days and drugs have been involved.
I wouldnt be surprised if something has been in the works for a while - some of these stories coming out now certainly make it difficult to believe they would have allowed him to continue beyond this summer.
My biggest hope for a clean slate this year is weāre given the grace to say something critical without treating critics like weāre all the same person and each of us responsible for anything any of us have said. The tendency this year to try to bat away sober and honestly aired criticism because other people have said something similar but in a mean way has made this place infuriating and frankly pretty childish at times (honestly quite often) this year.
I want to thank Arne for his service to this club and last years title. Decent man as well.
But I am extremely relieved. The first time I felt he needs to go was when he benched Mo, it really felt that he was losing it. Not because he benched Mo, but how he went on about it. It was clearly a statement to not give him any minutes in those games, even though Mo was our best player when he came on in the second game where he reluctantly had to play Mo after an early injury to some of our attackers.
I was very surprised by this as well, as I thought all signs were pointing to him staying. A while ago I posted in this thread speculating what it would mean in terms of continuity if we would go to next year with him.
Its also funny to see the ITK reporters for months saying heās not going anywhere and now it was Romano who broke the news, even though he never has had that close ties to the club as Joyce or Ornstein for example.
But still, thanks to Arne I hope him all the best in future endeavours. If he takes this year as a learning lesson, he will surely become a great coach.
So, waking up, checked TAN, saw 200+ new posts exploded on the Slot thread (missed the āformer coachā part), knew right away that heās gone.
I told my dad and heās so happy after hearing the news, as if cheering when Salah scored a match winning goal.
I want Slot leaves the club as desperate as many LFC supporters, as it has been an absolutely depressing season, and have some not very nice posts, butā¦
Kloppo got us #19 during the Covid year, and supporters could not go out and celebrate. Slot got us #20 and supporters were at Anfield watching our lads lifting the trophy, as well as the parade. Slotās figure will also be forever on the āMount Rushmore of LFC Managers (head coach)ā flag at the Kop. Letās not forget that.
Oh, Slot also has the song sang about him getting us #20, something about āto the left, to the rightā. Ah shite, thatās why we are going sideways (and backwards) so much this season because of that damn song!
I think this is more about how media works. Much of the news has come through what the club sources have been feeding. FSG will often have a public line that everything is fine but be working on changes behind the scenes. Perhaps even from Arneās camp. You can sense that from some of the changes in tone of certain reliable reporters such as Joyce as the season began to close.
I think Arne being sacked story was probably circulated to a wide number of journalists at the same time, possibly with a restriction to not say anything until a set time. Romano got wind either because he is on that distribution chain, or someone alerted him to it, so he posted first.
Same feeling here. This last season hasnāt been what anyone wanted. I think a clean break is in everyoneās interest. Iām sure Slot will do well elsewhere after a break.
My wifeās reaction was that I might actually enjoy watching the match again!
