Arne Slot - Head Coach (Part 1)

Thought this was a very good tactical overview of our victory against West Ham.

Did Chiesa save Arnes job for now?

Just get him gone.

Yup and Wirtz’s deflected shot saved him for now…He’s still not out of the woods.

West Ham looks increasingly like they are just shit…

Well… It’s our first draw of the season, but it’s not good enough. But we know this already.

I am a bit concerned that he doesn’t seem to know how to use a lot of the players. I feel like many of them don’t have clearly defined instructions or roles.

For a manager who was hailed as a tactical genius when we hired him it’s hard to see what the plan is right now. Just seems like he’s going off vibes.

Most concerning for me, building on that point, is that he appears to just be clinging on to whatever happens to work. Beat Madrid, nice we’ll just do that again. Start getting twatted, damn randomly change pieces until something works. Beat West Ham? Nice we’ll just do that again.

I don’t mind not being at the top of the league but I do need to see a plan being worked towards. Don’t see it right now.

Oh and his substitutions are garbage. Never seem to have a tactical purpose its just throwing people on and hoping something happens.

22 games into the season and we are still no clearer to seeing a structure that works.

There’s plenty to criticize, but where do we even begin? It’s all been said before; I’m not convinced we’re on the right track.

But I will continue to try to notice the small positive things. But that probably won’t be enough.

Yeah, I said it in the match thread but the entire season has had elements of Solskaer’s end at Utd.

  • Try to evolve the side and fail
  • Do so pretty miserably over a period of weeks
  • Periodically salvage points by throwing on as many attacking players as you have who play in a chaotic mess of way but are good enough to steal points
  • Repeat the following week, with plan A looking just as off.

Sunderland are better than us acting like anything other than a win is a travesty, especially as this was perfect circumstances for them. But the performance was a big disappointment after what seemed like emergence of some coherence on the weekend

The last two months people posting thousands of words about tactics, formations, personnel, shape etc.

All means shit if the head coach is not able to get the minimum of motivation out of his players.

Thin ice, very thin. I want Arne to turn it round, I really do. I just can’t see it.

Some have already written him off, while others want to give him another chance. We have to wait and see what the club decides. But for me, it makes absolutely no sense to postpone the inevitable if, unfortunately, there simply aren’t enough improvements. Time is simply wasted; I’m quite pragmatic about that. I think the team needs a fresh impetus.

Not sure what there is out there to be honest that’s the problem. Are we just getting another wet behind the ears manager in if we sack. It will depend what their views on the Champions League qualification is.

What is saving Slot’s job is how wank this league is.We are only 2 points off 4th place. As long as we are close to the CL spots they are not sacking him imo.

Yes agreed. I said before the weekend, we need to win, win and win again starting NOW!!! We looked shit today and should have lost.
That said, we are 2 points off 4th. How is that even fucking possible??!!:rofl:

We are the defending champions and are 11 points off the top after 14 games. Thats the more important stat. After been 5 clear after 5 games its a 16 point swing in 9 games.

These are my two main takeaways from the horror show this season has turned into. As long as there is clear structure and plan for going forward, especially as there are still quite a few players that are bedding in and a few players that need to be phased out/moved on, I don’t have many issues with not winning the odd game and playing for CL qualification (as there are a fair few better coached teams in the league at the moment). Of that I see none.

All of a sudden, both tactics and subs look desperate, even random. Some decisions are made like they are a part of muscle memory from last season, the others like Slot is in pre-season, trying on new ideas. There are a few mitigating circumstances but I think that the bottom line is that this is one of the poorest coaching performances I’ve seen at Liverpool - and this team is among the most poorly coached in top five leagues.

I agree that the slump is very concerning, but as for system and plan, I thought the 4231 was a bit clearer than what we have seen on many occasions this season, even if it wasn’t executed especially well.

In addition to that, I also saw us fight back and claim a point. Many times this season we fell apart and conceded more after going behind.

Don’t get me wrong, there are also lots of reasons to be concerned, but today I saw a little silver lining. Whether or not we get a foothold and build on it remains to be seen. Four points from the last six is better, but overall we are a long way away from where we want to be. I don’t think Slot is going to be sacked soon, but I do think the jury is out and we will need to see what the season brings.

I think we’re a lot fucking clearer to seeing how the structure work.

Wirtz at 10, combative midfielders behind him, wingers with pace, Salah on the bench. That seems to be the big takeaway from the last two.

We started to struggle tonight when Salah, came on, and Wirtz was pushed to the left to accommodate him.

I do think there has been a clearer plan in last two games. Confidence still low but at least we didn’t throw the towel in after conceding tonight.

Agree about the subs this season. Though last season we were all saying how Arne was brilliant at getting the subs right :man_shrugging:t2:
