Arne Slot - Head Coach (Part 1)

I’m not sure who directly ordered the firing, but John Henry released a statement to The Athletic where I saw the news. They also fired 3 other team positional coaches, clearing house.

Was Red Sox not performing well???

Yanks sweeped them and they are 8 games back and we haven’t even completed one month.

They’ve been awful.

It’s an interesting one this. Nobody wants us to loose games and we have to be in CL next season financially and to attract top players etc. but at the same time Slot is not the right man anymore, that’s been clear looking at the petformances over 12 months now, along with his shocking man management.
If we beat the scum and end up finishing 3rd, we’re 100% stuck with him and we’ll continue to regress. We need someone to come in and re build us into the mentality monsters we were, esspecially where we still have the influence of Alisson and Virgil in the dressing room from the Klopp era.

I can’t see Slot keeping his job even if we finish third.

I think Slot could use a break, too. He looks spent.

I think he’d keep his job if we finish 6th. There’s a lot of noise that the powers think there are mitigating circumstances and that it was always going to be a transitional season etc. I’ve been saying it a lot, but I don’t think his job has ever been in danger, sadly.
I agree that he’s done, but I don’t think the club feel that way.

I doubt he will be judged solely on the final league position, even if it ends up being one that qualifies us for CL next season. You take yesterday’s game as an example - Palace had the better chances and had notably higher xG in the end (Slot tends to bring up that particular stat when we don’t win). The eye test of the playing style and the team not looking like a cohesive unit should also work against him as much as any statistical data that is collected by the analysts, though I don’t expect them to work with the subjective aspect, of course.

I hope that the team will qualify for CL first and foremost, that the club already have a replacement in waiting, that there will be quick parting of the ways with Slot via “a mutual decision” as soon as the season ends where everyone will save face and Slot goes to another club with his reputation largely untarnished, while Liverpool get a new head coach who will make the team bigger than the sum of its parts.

What is the equivalent in football terms??

United when they fired Amorim. Its early and there is loads of time to salvage the season, but not without something changing.

Yeah, and it led them to a UCL spot out of nowhere…

Spursy

Same time Chelsea sacked Rosenior.

And yeah. There is also at least one poster who pointed them out at the time.

Couldn’t find where to put this

If Slot is retained then get Hetinga back.

I read that there are rumours from local journalist(s) saying that Heitinga will be back.

Amorim was sacked in January. It wasn’t an early sacking, by that definition.

I think the better comparison is if we had sacked Slot in November after that run of 9 defeats in 12.

United didn’t have the kind of expectations going into the season that we did. The Red Sox had much bigger ambitions coming off of last season. Also, Alex Cora has won a World Series as their manager, just as Slot has won a title with us.

I think the main difference is that Cora was very well liked by his players. Not sure if you can say the same about Amorim or Slot.

The fact that they didn’t hire Heitinga after he was sacked by Ajax (and later Spurs) seemed to indicate that they didn’t want to accept the risk of more potential separation payments if they sacked Slot.

But yeah, if they retain Slot, bring him back.

He’s been cruising on that 2018 World Series for far too long honestly. The Red Sox team is much more talented than their record.

How man years did Rodgers have left on his contract when he was sacked?

He signed a new 4 year contract in May 2014. I imagine it ran until the end of the 2017-18 season so he had about 2 years and 8 months left on it.
