So now it is the players, clearly bugger all to do with coaching!

Not that I really care about what Slot says these days (sad but I do not feel any kind of connection from him as a LFC coach/manager to us supporters), but…
What was the question being asked by the reporter? What was the tone of Slot? Was he serious, joking, etc? The context are all missing from this quote from Anfield Sector. It just pulled quote from The Telegraph.

I do find a lot of people get upset about comments that Slot makes that are clearly in jest. Obviously, not everyone hears the original interview in context, but I think some people just want to take offence.

In fairness, he specifically addressed the coaching in his last couple of press conferences. He also doesn’t mention contracts and signings. (Neither did Klopp. I think the club has learned to keep business behind closed doors)

Trying to get the Slot interview in The Telegraph and can no longer use the archive site to get around the paywall. Does anybody have any reliable alternatives ?

I just Googled ‘Slot latest interview’. It’s on Yahoo news or something and others too by the look of it.

It certainly does seem like the general mood around all the journalists who are ‘associated’ with the Club that Slot is going to get a stay. Whether he gets a new contract going into the season remains to be seen. I was adamant that the Club would not send keep Slot into a new season without giving him a new contract and even had a long to and fro with @Rab about it who, at this juncture, might very well be turn out to be right from the two of us.

What I will say, and stick to yet gladly admit being wrong about as well in the long run when it’s all said and done, is that I think it would be a massive mistake to keep him on and give him a new contract and a massive mistake to keep him on and not give him a new contract. It’s an accident waiting to happen and anything half as poor as some of these losing, or non winning streaks we’ve been on this season is going to raise a crescendo that will make this season look like a walk in the park and, as we’ve seen, his media presence is iffy to say the least and that will further alienate him. I do genuinely hope that I am wrong but I also genuinely and truly think we’re going to have some major fallout next season if he stays.

Slot will turn us into a new version of later-Wenger era Arsenal a.k.a perenial Top 4 team with no hope of winning titles.

Hughes and Slot is essentially demolishing the title-winning squad inherited from Klopp.

We still gonna kick him to death if he’s here next season?

On one hand, they have sold some and are about to release some more. On the other, time has caught up with quite a lot of them. There are a lot of sticks to rightfully beat Slot with but I wouldn’t use this against him. I’m more concerned that he can’t get a tune out of players he has at his disposal.

His quotes aren’t that important but I can send it to you via PM. However, this is the part that is very interesting:

"Change will not be confined to the squad. Feyenoord are keen to recruit Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who has spent the last 12 months as Slot’s assistant, to their technical team and that would leave a vacancy at Anfield.

Johnny Heitinga, a popular member of Slot’s backroom staff during the title-winning campaign, is a possibility but another option is Etienne Reijnen, who worked with Liverpool’s head coach at Feyenoord. Work permit issues prevented him joining his old boss on Merseyside in 2024.

Reijnen, who has a reputation for putting on outstanding sessions and has set-piece expertise, will soon secure the qualifications he needs to be able to work in the UK and Slot – without going into specifics – has confirmed he wants a fresh face to join him."

The tone suggests that Slot is here to stay, at least for one more season.

The contract situation is a spanner in the works. Very hard to attract players with such uncertainty over who’s going to be managing the team. If the club are going to be sticking with him then they need to extend his contract. Back him or sack him.

Dang, Slot has morphed into Confucius.

Cash solves that issue. Just ask Chelsea.

But agreed, that it becomes difficult to support a “project” for want of a better word.

Do you think I have an on/off switch? :upside_down_face: It feels a bit like a relationship where you don’t break up for the sake of the children, even though you know better. Later, you wonder what the point of all that was, and that you should have broken up much sooner, etc., because there were so many warning signs that it wasn’t working. Hopefully, it won’t come to that; in my opinion, it’s just a waste of time.

At this point i would take it at face value that is the case. Reijnen to join because we lost a coach earlier this season and was a key part of his team in Holland, and Heitinga preferred replacement if van Bronchurst leaves.
