To be clear, thats not what I’m saying. Read my comments again…
The point is that the fact that you do not have information about what is going on behind the scenes, should foreclose you from making definitive statements, like deriding Hughes and Edwards,
We all know what we are seeing on the pitch wrt performance. We also know what we saw in a chamionship winning season, under one year ago, with the same manager.
Its the why that we do not know…
no worries @sgs, lets move on.
Ornstein saying the plan is to stick with him and buy reinforcements on the wings
It’s the ManU approach post Fergie. Playing real life Football Manager will solve all the problems.
At its heart, I still can’t see the vision, and I think most fans feel the same.
Even in defeats, you normally get a 10-minute spell where it suddenly clicks. You see what the manager wants and the work on the training ground . You can recognise the manager’s identity taking shape (Klopp evolved through three distinct phases, Rodgers had the possession-heavy tika-taka approach, Rafa was all about organisation and control).
Right now, I genuinely have no idea what kind of football Slot ultimately wants us to play, or how it suits the players we actually have. More importantly, I can’t see a clear path to how he intends to fix it. When results have been positive, they’ve mostly come from moments of individual quality rather than a recognisable structure or system.
What makes it more frustrating is that we already had a winning formula. It’s perfectly normal for a new manager to evolve a team toward their own identity. But ripping up a successful mentality, style, and identity to start again only works if people can eventually see where we are heading.
For a year most fans can’t clearly define how this is meant to work. Which makes me worry if there is any coherent vision at all.
If Alonso goes to Chelsea and Slot stays here I might cry!
There are posters in this thread arguing that the petition isnt allowed, who in other threads about politics, advance an argument for liberty. Fuckign staggering.
Its blatantly obvious and doesnt need 150 posts.
We are shit.
Because the manager is more suited to officiating non religious ceremonial burials.
Im not saying it’s not allowed im saying it’s pointless.
Sadly if he stays it’s obvious what will happen. I don’t think they are actually considering Alonso, perhaps that’s true but I’d be surprised if we do actually plow forward with Slot, After all if your willing to back him you need to offer him a further contract if you are really that confident he can turn it around.
Until they do that it’s just words, if they don’t serve up something good on the final day and if they miss out on CL it could be toxic.
Not sure why you need to offer him a further contract if the decision is for him to continue…You wait and see…and then react accordingly…
Fucking hell, the more you read the worse it gets.
“I would expect one or two to come in”.
If he’s just talking about wingers, and I’m not sure he is, then we need at least 3. Salah going, Chiesa might as well if Slot is still here, Gakpo fucking useless and Rio might get 10 minutes here and there.
Said it time and again, we need 10 players in the summer to replace those leaving, those that are average/shite and the biscuit assortment.
I know we wont get 10 but that’s what’s needed.
Well they seem totally confident in him and do they expect the two wingers to suddenly turn it around like that?
exactly!!
Our dominant game model in the championship winning season was different from Klopps, in that it had more control. But could always trigger back to Klopp.
Ours is still a possession based game model, but there’s no dominant theme, as we have been on a game to game basis since he reset to deal with the defensive issues back in late Fall…
There are isolated games you can look at to get a glimpse IMO, of where/how he wants this team. The one that readily comes to mind is 1hf vs Everton at Anfield and the Madrid game..
My sense, more guess is that we do not have the foundational fitness base to play his way consistently. Guess just based on the running stats…
I’d wait and see we don’t know who is speaking on whose behalf.
This has been Ornstein’s “understanding” for weeks, I don’t expect it would be steadfast if they were to end up in the Europa League for instance. Especially considering they needed 1 win in 4.
53 posts in 2 hours! Really?
That’s after 100 posts earlier today
I’m going to start a petition.
Think that’s it for me.
I’m going ignore this section of the board.
I wonder if Ornstein’s reporting is dependent on what he was told a month ago, rather than what their thinking is right now.
It might serve us all well to look back at what was being said in this and other threads in May and June last year. Just a casual scroll and you’ll find people talking positively about Slot giving the players a chance to go have a break, about his less hard running tactics, about his attitude towards players needing to come back and show the right fitness and mentality for pre-season, about the onus being on players needing to earn their place.
Then you pop into the transfer thread and there’s huge praise for our business, people in disbelief at our business, discussions on changing our approach to fit the new players, acknowledgement of the old guard moving on. One person even said a CB and a centre forward would give us the perfectly balanced squad and then we went and signed both plus Isak on top.
So very few of the criticisms being leveled at Slot and our business being shouted now were even mentioned back then. The odd concerned voice about a particular element but the overwhelming consensus was hugely positive.
I say this not to pick at any one specially. I look at some of the things I posted and realise I got plenty wrong (apparently you CAN entirely change the role of the guy who got you 40+ goals and assists last year despite me being adamant the arrival of Wirtz and Ekitike wouldn’t see that happening).
I know emotions are high right now but I’d take a look back at last summer and think about what the benefit of hindsight has given us all, including Slot and Hughes. I don’t think he should survive this season but pretty much none of us saw this coming. I’m sure with the benefit of hindsight everyone would have done things differently.
