Arne Slot - Head Coach (Part 2)

Dembele already showed it for France at WC22, playing right wing, but compensating with a big defensive effort to allow Mbappe more freedom needed on the left (and off the ball Rabiot would basically defend the left side and Griezmann would drop deeper to help the centre) in their asymmetrical 4-4-2.

It’s also a testament to Enrique. He seems like a manager people want to play for. He has the charisma and aura and, best of all, the tactical nous. If we could pry him from PSG, he’d be my number one choice. My nightmare scenario is that he gets hired by one of our rivals at some point.

At this point Id take Keith Andrews.

I always make the mistake of saying Keith Richards instead of Andrews.

Rog from Men in Blazers and Rory Smith on the weekly football discussion. At around 21:55 they talked about the match, then the really damning part was at around 33:10 onwards, they discussed about the views from their interactions with Slot. It is definitely not a good impressions.

That’s really damning and unfortunately completely fair. I also think Rog’s comments about his impression of Slot the person are a reminder of how good at this stuff he actually is for a guy who doesnt take any of it seriously

At this point I’d take Keith Chegwin

I watched that this evening and it was absolutely disheartening and reflective of what I’ve seen as well. A man caught in his own head, who carries himself as if he has no control over what’s happening, who has no apparent answers to the problems we are facing.

Rory really hit the nail on the head when he said that there’s no evidence of what his plan is. Nothing to point to and see even the hint of a longterm strategy. It’s hard to have faith in the direction when it isn’t even apparent what that direction is.

Ah ok, I thought you were only referring to the current season… :man_facepalming:

Ok for an interim but you know what they say about rolling stones.

ā€œThis is meant for the season end review but don’t think it will change for me with 3 games to go. As things unfold this season with massive drop in the league standard and the sad loss of Jota, I wouldn’t change the team from last season and am still convinced we will win the league again and probably had better challenge in the UCL. With significant characters in the team like Lucho and Nunez around, they are not just players but strong members of the team, the lads would probably handle the tragedy better in comradeship. We just needed to sign 2 replacements and a new one. A RB, a striker in Hugo and the early signing of Guehi. The familiarity and the key structure of the team would be still intact and Mo would probably not falter in such a shocking manner. And we still could call upon Rio and Elliottā€¦ā€

Copied from socials. Totally agree. I’d add to that the re-establishment of training methods during Klopp’s tenure.

Our forward line of 3 has been completely decimated.

I was watching Sky football’s Premier League Review of last season. Just the positions that Cody got to in order to score were created by movement of the rest of the forwards and midfield. That’s all virtually vanished.

Rory’s comment about our expectations last summer aiming for another run at the title and the gasp Rog lets slip (about the 38th minute mark) sums it all up perfectly for me.

We’ll never make it to Part 3 at this rate.

WTF are you lot up to?

Shouldn’t the title of this thread be ā€œArne Slot - Title Winning Head Coachā€?

ā€˜Not as good as Klopp, Slot’?

Well this season has been massively disappointing and all that, but lets just say he won the league in his first season second season (see above) and if he is here next season maybe get behind him and the team instead of salivating at the first defeat in anticipation?

If he stays I will see how it goes but if its the same a month or two in then you have to cut lose at that point.

Only slight benefit is some world cup coaches maybe available. Then again if Alonso doesn’t take a job you’d think he was doing a Klopp and having a rest. I do think that change in international breaks were they get rid of September and bump it together with October and it runs for up to 3 weeks. This means there will be 5-6 league games and potentially a CL round or two before the first international break.

That break in late September will probably lead to a few early managerial changes. Also the season at least gets started.

It would be so stupid to keep him. You can’t just snap your fingers and everything that has happened this season is reset in the summer. It’s total fantasy.

Looks like Alisson is the next to go. I’ve said this before but it wouldn’t surprise me if Mo’s outburst was taking one for the team. Yes he’d been dropped but I think the comments from other players since and the performances show that Slot hasn’t got many fans in the dressing room.

Don’t really care who comes in but someone who uses the players correctly and plays with some intensity. A good man manager wouldn’t go amiss either.
