Damn… I checked the forums and saw a lot of posts about this thread… for a second, I thought he was finally out
I’ll check again tomorrow.
Dude…it has only jumped 40 or so in a day.
If they punted Arne it woulda been 100s…
But it could easily have gone much worse much quicker. Just as it has done for many others.
If anything I think it’s extremely surprising that it didn’t.
Slot’s not getting sacked before the end of the season. But I’m hoping that he’ll announce his departure once UCL is confirmed.
“It’s been great, but I miss my family…hard to be away from home…proud of what we’ve accomplished…etc etc”
Slot gets a round of applause. Leaves with his head held high.
And then on May 25, 2026.
“Liverpool are pleased to announce the appointment of Xabi Alonso as the 23rd manager in the history of the club.”
It would be far more dignified.
Fair enough…
Had me dreaming for a moment there😆
He‘d never get a job abroad again.
…but I’m feeling refreshed now and looking forward to the challenge of leading Dortmand back to the top of the bundlesliga
He‘d never get a job abroad again.
No one is going to take that literally. It’s a convenient cover for him wanting a graceful departure at the behest of being sacked otherwise.
The concern I have is the thought that Slot’s success is going to be inextricably linked to the success of the guy who hired him. I dont know this is the case, I am not sure I even believe it is the case, but I can see a scenario where Hughes feels backed into a corner where the only way for his tenure to come out as a success is if the guy he hired and spent lavishly to support ends up a success and so continues to back him for self serving purpose despite all the evidence to the contrary of him needing to go.
No, in this scenario the smart thing from Hughes would be to cut him and then appoint the guy who can use the players he bought and be a success. Hughes would look brilliant if his record of manager hires was year 1 title, year 2 Champions league plus year 3 challenging for title again.
But if he sticks with Slot and fails miserably, then there are a lot of question marks.
But I don’t think the ship is steady at the moment. It appears to be drifting. Lost at sea.
Feels like Slot’s pointing north, but all the rowers are on one side so we’re just going around in circles while a southerly quietly sends us backwards.
Ohh did I mention everyone’s feet are wet because we also have a leak ?
It shouldn’t be lost on us that Alisson - after having his contract extended and previously expressing his desire to stay - is being linked heavily with a move to Serie A.
Makes me wonder if there’s just a lot of unhappiness drowning the club at the moment.

But equally if the new guy fails to get a better tune out of the squad and he’s sacked off a bloke who won the title in season 1 and got CL qualification in season 2 then there will be questions to be asked.
It’s a role of the dice either way, it just feels more optimistic to make the change having had the season we have.

I didnt say it was the smart thing for Hughes to do.

It is not a roll of the dice if the premise is that Hughes is backing “him for self serving purposes despite all the evidence to the contrary of him needing to go.” It does not make sense to back Slot if he believes it is the wrong decision.
If Hughes does not believe in his ability to find someone better than someone he doesn’t rate (if that were the case) then he is in the wrong profession.
Even if Hughes is not being smart. Our owners are smart… if Slot is retained there is probably a reason we don’t know.

I agree unhappiness has engulfed the place and am starting to think more and more that DJ’s death has had far more of an impact than any of us have been willing to recognise.
PSG in the final. This PSG side reminds me what we used to be and what we will never be under Slot.
It’s why I was very hesitant to make a make a change until about March even though many wanted it sooner. I do think he deserved to complete the CL campaign. It looks like we will at least achieve one objective thanks to a couple of individual performances but Man Utd again showed why come the end of the season it’s better to twist than stick.
We should be seeing something but if I’m honest it’s the same mistakes over and over again.
