Arne Slot - Head Coach (Part 2)

That broke it for me.

I’d get behind it if they hadn’t spent lots of money, and the team wasn’t league champions.

He’s hollowed that out completely, I’m with @Sweeting these players are not bad.

So there was no holiday this week then?

Fucking right…

It’s really not that strange considering that both Edward’s and Hughes have heavily been linked with moves away. Both have 1 year left on contracts. Key part for Edward’s was multi-club expansion that has never eventuated while Hughes been linked to Saudi league.

Klopp meanwhile has been operating more at that level at RedBull. Allows him close connection to the game without as much stress/intensity.

Whilst not that common in the PL, Europe does show that elite football figures with legacies (Cruyff, Maldini etc) can step back and allow coaches to thrive.

I guess a maximum of 8 days until we definitely find out if Slot will be here at the start of next season.

Klopp is essentially an executive consultant for Red Bull as an org. He is not working as a DoF, not anything close to it.

I’d be concerned about Klopp as a DoF, or as a manager with no oversight. I feel that for all his qualities he’s not the best judge of talent outside of the club. Some of the players we’ve heard that he has vouched for have been less impressive than the guys the “nerds” went out and actually got.

I’ve said this a few months ago already.

If Slot is still here after this season I fully expect him to be here until his contract expires in 2027 and at least one of Edwards/Hughes will go with him.

He’s been a massive failure this season and nothing happened so why should they sack him next season?

Relegation zone?

He’s also currently on course to qualify for the CL and reached the Q Final of the CL. It’s probably his targets met as low as they may seem.

Because of the “mitigating circumstance.”

Rumblings of Slot getting shown the door, going anround online. If so, I like the idea of bringing in Stuttgart’s HoeneB, and his field general, Angelo Stiller, whom we’ve apparently looked at in the past.

Alonso to Chelsea has really gutted me. I can’t imagine how positive the vibes would be going into next season after a summer of additions and Alonso taking the helm. Seeing him at Chelsea is brutal, especially as it appears we’re moving forward with Slot.

It is what it is. I’m a Liverpool supporter first and foremost, so I hope Alonso bombs at Chelsea and I hope Slot sticks it to everyone by leading a title charge next season.

I want to see one more post in this,Slot sacked!
He looks like a liability,I want to be wrong, but hard at this point.

Alonso will be available around about November, which it appears is about when LFC will be looking.

It really does look like Slot is going to get a chance to start next season. Hoping the analytics boffins have something right, because I am not seeing it. The great puzzle with Slot is how exactly he could have started out so well and then collapsed so badly, but I would prefer that next season not to be dedicated to the experimental discovery of a solution.

Such as Nunez.

BTW it seems that Conte might be leaving Napoli. He’d be an excellent interim for two seasons prior to Alonso getting sacked.

You think Alonso lasts two seasons. Demands a lot of control over transfers which he hasn’t had in Germany or Spain.

If I’m honest he could be a relevation or he could end up going like Maresca but sooner.

If Alonso gets sacked at Chelsea after a short time, I’m not sure I’d want him here. Real Madrid was less about Alonso and more about the lazy, entitled egos there. I could forgive that, because the underlying numbers at Real were still good. But Chelsea have players who are younger and badly in need of management. I think his chances of success there are so much higher. But I hope I’m wrong and he fails there, too - or, at least, doesn’t do as well as us.

It’s increasingly looking like the amazing start was made by a team on autopilot from the Klopp years. When it faded, Slot’s deficiencies started coming to the fore.

In which case, we can kiss the next season goodbye as well if we persist with him.

We’re led to believe that Hughes continues to back Slot. Slot has also talked, repeatedly, about what a transformational summer we’re going to have in terms of signings. It will cure our current ills.

Surely Hughes hasn’t missed what that means for his own position?

Fundamentally, however, if Liverpool stick with Slot the club are going to have to go big again this transfer window; never easy in a World Cup year. But imagine if we had another summer like last year, but this time addressing our glaring needs. Quality on the wings, versatility in defence, leadership, backbone in midfield…

I’m confident that Slot would continue to fail but what a squad that could leave for the next man.

Desperately trying to see the positives of Slot being here at the start of next season.

*in terms of mitigating circumstances you mean, surely?
