Arne Slot - Head Coach (Part 2)

Really? I always had him down as some sort of renaissance man…

I find it weird that Slot nearly always goes for a short holiday to some fun places whenever there is no matches. I would understand if it is the international breaks but he seems to be doing it like right after matches in a game week.

In an ordinary season, the workload in the modern game is so fucking mad where previous managers that LFC employed keeps complaining openly to the press of having no time to train. Only this head coach has no big issues with it. And it makes sense for our previous managers to complain.

I would imagine things will be like the following even for the most slackest of head coaches and team for a Saturday-Saturday Gameweek:

Assuming a game was finished on a saturday afternoon where there is no midweek game, the fitness coaches leads the players to cools down and starts preparing everyone to go home.

Sunday would be the time to do full recovery workouts and ice baths for the squad after church or whatever while the coaches start on the preparation of an AAR of the match.

Monday would be a rest day for the squad while the coaches finishes the AAR and the tactical prep for the next match.

Tuesday will see the squad return to Kirkby for a debrief of the last match and scrutinising details that led to dangerous chances or poor gameplay in general. Initial tactical prep for the next match will be done here too.

Weds to friday morning will see the whole squad do a bit of fitness and strength conditioning, technique improvements and tactical gameplays for the next match. Friday afternoon onwards will be recovery work and rest in the team hotel for away matches.

Matchday’s morning will be a decent team breakfast and the final tactical briefing. Noon will be light warms ups and the match will probably be in just a couple of hours time.

Rinse and repeat.

So I find it extremely astounding that the squad can have 2-3 days off when there is so much work to do in a gameweek prep without a mid-week match?

The DOF is supposed to be an experienced figure who is supposed to ensure that the club’s training and tactical philosophy is followed to the tee by the coaching staff and playing staff. Being 250++ km away from Kirkby is really not helping at all!

With us not even contacting Alonso and with this new Dutch coach coming in to help Slot (I have to be honest in that I’m that fucking angry at him I’m now finding it difficult to not insult him when I type his name and that is something I never thought I’d feel towards a manager who won the league with us but literally every time he speaks now he digs that hole a little deeper) I can only see this staying the same and us spiralling downward next year, especially without the initial five victories that buffered up our season this year.

Thinking about it it looks to me like Hughes and Slot made their plans last summer, Hughes spent a ridiculous amount of money and now he isn’t willing to give up on whatever plan they came up with together. Especially when this is the last season he’s contracted for.

On the small chance Slot turns it around then I’m sure they’ll both be proclaiming themselves as geniuses. If it all goes wrong again then their contracts end and they can use that to justify why they left to any future employers..

Why it was such a fucking stupid idea to have the whole management structure going out of contract at the same time. They really don’t need tom give a shit about anything beyond getting through next season - and it looks as if nobody from FSG cares enough to do anything about it.

Rumours abound…about the hierachy of LFC having a change of mind over the Slot removal…

As in they were going to remove him but now aren’t?

or

They were going to keep him but they won’t any more?

So, with Alonso out, who would be in line if Slot leaves? Assuming Klopp doesn’t want to return.

I would take Enrique over everyone, including Alonso, but he’s not available this summer. I might even be willing to stomach another season of Slot if we were guaranteed Enrique next summer. But even if he becomes available in 2027, there’s no guarantee he comes here.

Ancelotti is next for me, as I think he’s a top top manager. But he just renewed with Brazil, so I don’t expect he plans a return to club management.

Nagelsmann has been a wunderkind manager linked with a lot of top jobs over the year. But I’m not sure he’s got the right mentality to manage this club. He falls between Slot and Brendan - someone who is in his own head a lot but isn’t quite as abrasive as Brendan.

Hoeneß has a lot of admirers, but he’s also inexperienced and I’m not sure he’d be ready for a job at this level. Before people compare him to Klopp, remember that Klopp won Bundesligas and competed for UCLs. Hoeneß seems like an up and coming manager, but he doesn’t have a resume that’s anywhere near that.

Iraola has done a wonderful job at Bournemouth and I like him, but again, this would be a major step up for him. The pressure would be 1000x what he experiences at Bournemouth.

I’d take Iraola over Glasner.

Marco Silva has admirers. He’s done great work at Fulham and knows the league well. His tenure at Everton is a strike against him, though, and I’m not sure it suits us (or him) to take on the expectations he’d have here.

Cesc Fabregas has done such great work at Como, and it would be hilarious in a way for us to get Cesc and Chelsea to get Alonso. But Serie A ain’t the Premier League, and I’d like to see how he’ll do in the UCL (which they’re just outside of as of today).

I admire Pochettino. But I haven’t been impressed with his management for several years now.

Anyone else come to mind?

Yes just seen this on X but it’s Indykalia the Brave, nevertheless if it comes to be true, how does this happen the day after Alonso signs for Chelsea, bonkers stuff.

That’s pretty much it, that’s why Alonso felt objectively like the obvious option, the LFC connection was a plus. Anyone else is as much a risk, if not more. Unless they’ve got someone much better like Enrique, but that feels unlikely. Or the worst option obviously, Slot staying.

Yes, Fabian Hurzeler.

All of a sudden, I realised what @Dutch has been telling us all these time. Don’t trust them Dutch!

Slot is one of the good Dutch. Dutch hated the Dutch from Amsterdam/Ajax.
