While Guardiola being obviously one of the greatest club coaches in history, isn’t he also the ultimate form of a cheque-book manager? Who has he managed other than clubs that are financially ready to blow any near rivals out of the water when it comes to acquiring and retaining absolute top superstars? Look at who he already had in the teams that he took over.At Barca, Bayern, and City. And then they acquired whoever the wished. And who will they have at Liverpool? Practically nobody of any note..
Looking at Pep that way,he probably wouldn’t want to be a starter anyway.
I do grudgingly have to agree with you. He is a world class manager, no doubt.
I wouldn’t mind if he was our manager in the future. I have no doubt, he would win us more trophies.
Would the majority of us fans accept him?
Jürgen is and will always be well loved by the younger fans who have the first experience of seeing us win the league after 30 years and Champions League after 14 years.
Can FSG afford to pay his salary, give him absolute authority and control over player transfers etc, regardless of how much the players cost? Pep would be a powerful figure within the club.
Also, would he come to us?
My personal opinion, Pep has secretly admired Liverpool, the Anfield atmosphere and do remember years ago, Pep tried to create this atmosphere at Man City, but it never worked. I think he envied Jürgen’s worldwide popularity, he was the more charismatic, cooler and warmer of the two.
I don’t think he will come though. He needs a rest, spend time with his family and later be a manager for a national team.
I would not mind if he managed England too.
Don’t go, just do as I do, scroll past his post, it makes life here a lot more pleasant.
| Manager | Odds | Current Club |
|---|---|---|
| Luis Enrique | 7/2 | PSG |
| Andoni Iraola | 4/1 | Bournemouth (Leaving 2026) |
| Sebastian Hoeness | 9/2 | Stuttgart |
| Julian Nagelsmann | 6/1 | Germany |
| Jurgen Klopp | 17/2 | Unattached |
| Oliver Glasner | 9/1 | Crystal Palace (Leaving 2026) |
| Unai Emery | 10/1 | Aston Villa |
| Simone Inzaghi | 12/1 | Al-Hilal |
| Steven Gerrard | 14/1 | Unattached |
| Francesco Farioli | 16/1 | Porto |
These are current odds for the next Liverpool manager…
Amazingly, there is no option for no change or contract renewal for Arne Slot…Some folks here would earn a killing from it if FSG continues with Slot…
Nagelsmann will be at the World Cup with the national team until July. Makes no sense at all. Our preseason has to be perfect.
Nobody‘s preseason will be perfect. The damn World Cup in a country where the summer is a brutal and medical experts are warning about the literal lives of the footballers playing for their national teams. Slot has his excuses at the ready already. Relegation, here we come!
The idea of Luis Enrique being the favourite given where he is now relative to where we are is nuts, but I’m here for it.
He’s probably the one (semi) available manager right now who could pacify the fans annoyed by us ignoring Xabi.
My first choice would be Luis Enrique, second choice Sebastian Hoeneß and third choice Andoni Iraola, (only worry, he hasn’t won a cup competition).
I’m similar, would swap Iraola and Hoeness around though due to PL experience.
I’m the other way. Sebastian has that personality and charisma that we lost when Jürgen left. I don’t think Iraola has that. What Andoni has is the tactical nous. Ideally it would be both of them together that would make the perfect team for me, but obviously that’s not gonna happen. Failing that I would emphasise on the motivation and man management side because that’s rare to find. There are a number of coaches that can work under Hoeneß that would be master tacticians and can set up the team to succeed but won’t be able to motivate the players the way Klopp used to be able to.
I’m being slightly influenced by knowing someone who did some work with the PGMOL recently and during that hearing about how great a man-manager Iraola is known to be within the game.
Oooh!!! I like the sound of that!
How is he still here? The players clearly cant stand him.
I’m at that stage of the week where I think it’s maybe not all that bad and Slot might just be going through a sophomore slump before turning it around next year.
I’ll let you know how long into our inevitable 2-0 defeat to Brentford it takes for me to change again.
People discussing Ped managing us one day. Barking mad.
Sorry to hear that, mate. Medical professionals are en route to your location for a wellness check, and definitely haven’t been briefed to forcibly restrain you at the nearest mental welfare facility.
I’ve already said that, if Slot gets fired now, Liverpool’s next manager/head coach will be one without any trophy-winning experience. That said, that guy has to be a good one - and Iraola fits the bill on a lot of accounts, aside from the trophy-winning experience.
I was genuinely saddened when I heard Man United wanted to sign him because I rated him highly - and this “rejuvenation” of the side is probably in line with signing a manager who wants to play front-foot, high-pressing football. He had wobbles at Bournemouth but I think stats tell the story of a really progressive coach.
If you are feeling bored and anyone believes in this crazy idea of tracking private jets…it looks like Sebastian Hoeness is the chosen one and not Iraola. ![]()
I would be Happy with either one though. But, Iraola gets extra points for being prem proven.
