I cannot see anything that he says to the board that wouldn’t be called out as bullshit. It is quite indefensible for him though. He lost quite a big portion of the fans, lost a huge chunk of the dressing room.
His physical conditioning of the team was crap despite most of the squad was on holiday after the last day of the league campaign bar for Wirtz who is the late returnee with Isak the striker who went on strike.
The tactics is just sad which he also cannot defend. If he claims that the new guy is gonna change everything where the role of the new guy is a set-piece guy, he is gonna get laughed out of the room.
If he claims new speedy wingers is gonna change everything, all it takes is for someone to point it out that Frimpong, Gakpo and Rio are quite speedy themselves and still unable to break down all kinds of organised block. His point then become moot…
Frankly, the only reason he is still in a job is that this review is not completed yet.
In lots of people’s opinion. You have to just see the lack of application and heart in the pitch. I looked at the players closely during my trips to Anfield. Never seen such defeatist body language so frequently among so many of the players during even Klopp’s bad seasons.
I think if you had just posted this it would have saved you some time and effort. Logically this is the case. Let the dust settle, remove emotion from it, look at all the facts before acting.
They may decide Slot is still their best option too. Difficult for us to agree obviously but they will have more info than we do.
I understand what you mean. Correlation doesn’t mean causation. But at this point it’s pretty close enough to make educated guesses. Especially after Mo’s post and the player reactions to it.
In all honesty, it’s his (and everyone else’s) turn to laugh at us - we’ve been doing it to others for years now. Honestly, when I saw that Arteta as bridesmaid banner last season, I knew it was only a matter of time before it bit us in the ass - a bit like that “come back when you’ve won 18 titles” jibe at Man United fans. I hate that stuff.
That said, I hate even more persisting with a head coach that will almost certain be sacked before the end of the year, having utterly broken the soul of the team beforehand and making some players like Jones depart in the process.
Just going by the number of current players employed by the club that liked that viral Insta post by Salah calling out the poor tactics by the Head Coach, I would assume that is pretty much a huge group.
Because it’s a bit too late in the day to up their fitness to the level required to put in that level effort without blowing out of their arses by the time it’s 70 minutes on the clock?
Yep. It’s the manager and coaching team’s job to ensure the players have the level of fitness required to perform at the desired intensity for as long as possible.
They can’t just flick a switch and magically become a cross between the Hulk and Usain Bolt on match day.
If that post had said ‘Arne Slot is shit and should be fired’ and everyone liked it, you’d have a point.
It was an ambiguous valedictory leaving message from a club legend, with more than a little ‘not my fault, guv’ about it. Of course all the players are going to like it. It would be weird if they didn’t.
In all seriousness, this is where the vacuum of leadership at senior levels at the club really hits hard.
If he is staying, somebody should be coming out and communicating that decision and the rationale. The problem is the club say nothing. They let issues fester and discontent grow.
Talks might still be ongoing to confirm plans, even if they might have agreed up to now that we are probably going into pre-season and next season with Slot. These days could indeed take it from probably to surely.
No extra announcements or words of support are needed for me, though I might be in the minority here. It can be very tricky and never ending if the club starts getting involved in things like that. He’s under contract and he’s our head coach, so my understanding is that he’s here, well… until he’s not. Simple.
Konate’s contract? They’ll announce it when and if it’s done. Sometimes it’s done and not immediately announced. Don’t see the panic. Impatience with these things in football doesn’t help. Especially if we’re not naive and following this game since yesterday.
Going by simple stats like points, GD and number of games lost, even to an untrained eye like J W Henry, Mike Gordon and Bill Hogan, it stands out like a sore thumb.
If they hire a independent football performance auditor to be part of the panel, he is fucked…
